Why you should lock your handlebars

Why would you not lock your forks?Anyone could steal your bike if you don't.

I have been robbed eight times, so I lock everything. I have more keys than Ace Hardware. With that said, what do you guys think of brake caliper locks?

Brake caliper locks work swell unless you forget to unlock one and get on the bike and take off. I have seen this happen. Not pretty! Might deter some criminals. The more cables, locks, sirens, wizzers, and bells on the bike the more apt to deter the theif but if they want it bad enough they will still get it. I try to park next to a bike that is way nicer than mine. That seems to work well!

Blues, as nice as your bike is, you must ride in high class neighborhoods.

I rarely lock my forks out on my Glide. I did all the time when I had my VRod. I'm not really sure why I don't with this one. About the only time I do is when it's parked in a city and I'll be away from it from some time. I guess I rely on my security system more than I should. Kind of like a false sense of security.

When I am on the road you better believe I lock the forks and I cover it at the hotel also...with a HD cover..lol its a good deterrent and you almost need a forklift to move it, plus she will sing and chirp like a bird on steroids:D

I just purchased a Xena XX10 brake caliper lock and when it's installed the chance of getting on the bike and driving away are zero because a 150Db siren sounds 5 seconds after the bike is tilted up straight (off the jiffy stand).

Now that sounds like a nice lock. Quite an improvement over the old school ones.

I have been considerin the Abus Granit Detecto X-Plus 8077 Alarm Disc Lock .
I would only use it when stopping for the night.

I lock mine up if I'm going to be away from it for more then a hour. Fork lock, cover with alarm(for overnight), disk brake locks down siren for stock security system. Even with all this if a thief wants it bad enough they will take it but they will have to work for it.

The best deterrent is to park beside a nicer bike. When we went to Oshkosh and parked in the bike area, I told the wife....Hell, we don't need to worry about it getting stolen....

I always lock the forks anyway though....

A word of caution. Maintain or at least occasionally check the function of the lock at home. I was on the road this past weekend, about 230 miles from home. I got up the next morning at the motel and went outside to load the bike and take off. Went to unlock the switch and it seemed to unlock, but had no power and the bars were not unlocked. I messed around for quite sometime, locking, unlocking, wiggling, etc.....finally after about 10 minutes the lock pin released and I had power. No idea what happened. After I got home, I removed the switch lubed what seemed like I could and reinstalled. It seems fine now, but, how do you know? Thought I was stranded till the dealer opened up about 3 hours later.
