Vance and Hines Pro pipe- Standard or Comp baffle.... my views

So I have had the Pro Pipe since July 2014 with the standard baffle and installed a canned map with my FP3.... ran great!

I decided to run a competition baffle in Dec 2014 and installed another canned map for this baffle... it ran good, but not great. I Liked the extra 'noise' that the flow-thru design produces but I lost a bit of bottom end and gained a lot on the top due to the decrease in back pressure.

I also had a bit more decel popping thru the exhaust and decided to run an autotune session for 650 miles. I gained a little more bottom end, but wasn't 'truly' satisfied with the end result.

I went back to the standard baffle and canned map of my initial install and after running both, this is the best setup for a STOCK 103 and full stage 1.

I can only figure that the comp baffle would be much more suited for a bike with a bit of motor work... cams etc..... Don't get me wrong, it's a great addition to the Pro Pipe, but you need a bit more work to gain the full performance value of it... so it's on my shelf.

Spazz,
Thanks for sharing. Some people would believe that a competition version of a product is always better than the standard version, but that certainly isn't always true. I appreciate you sharing your comparison and objective assessment.

Wow was just starting to get used to that barking rumble and could tell it was you riding in. Now I'll have to tune my ear to the original sound again lol.

Thanks for sharing and I like the power dual idea but I may be bias.

I really like my pro-pipe and the way it sounds. On the highway it isn't too loud but when getting on it, it has a nice bark. I installed the canned map and think it runs so well that I never did an auto tune.

Exactly... best canned map I have encountered thus far... dang near perfect

What do you all mean by a canned map ?

Canned map is a set of predetermined specifications and settings based on an engine modification. The info is flashed into the ECM to make the engine run well with those specific mods. Generally affected are A/F ratios, timing, and RPM ranges

So its just a name for a map code , I have a 2013 with a pro pipe and SE air box and the V&H module and they gave me a map number witch gave me the values for each setting , are these whats called canned

Let me ask you all this I eliminated my o2 sensors is there any difference weather you use them or not ?

Yes. The map is compatable with your mods based on previous dyno tuning results with the same or similar mods

The .02 sensors operate in closed loop. The map you have is based on the .02 sensors being operational. I would reinstall them.

Hello all, I have a 2009 streetglide with Vance and Hines classic dual head pipes, V&H Monster Ovals and a SE race tuner. Love the sound, although I'd like a little more volume. Here's my problem, I want to stretch my bags.....I can't due to the fact that the ovals are so wide so I have to go to a round pipe. Was wanting some thoughts on some different exhaust options that will give me the same deep rich tone but a lot louder. Thoughts?

Note: I have all the packing removed so they are quite louder than they are out of the box.

foxphotog- It's 3pm now. By 7pm you will have several ideas and suggestions posted from this group!!!! Read their signatures as well, you'll see what everyone runs . . . .

Oh yeah, Welcome to SGF !!!!

Ok first question are you wanting to stay duals or go 2-1 ???? I think V&H makes a 4 inch monster round you can change the baffles in for as much noise as you want.

Just wondering

I would look into the the new OS 450's by V/H... they are loud and only option is a quiet baffle if they are too loud out of the box. The only difference between the 450 Destroyer and 450 Raider are the tips. They are a step design full length baffle. Either of these, with the PowerDuals would be much louder than your current setup for sure. I am thinking of going this route if I ever decide to go away from my 2-1 Pro Pipe

I went to that tune your harley site and there is nothing but old information. I have run with and without o2 sensors hooked up and there is no difference and fact of the matter is the adapter plugs you get with the V and Hines fuel pak actually disconnects them, they are there but you have to put these plastic adapter plugs in between o2 wires and harness witch deems them null.

You are rite! My street glide ran AWESOME with SE Stage one air flow, 2 into 1, Comp Baffle, FP3. I put the Screaming eagle heavy breather on and now the bike has great top end but lost all of my low end. I either can take the Heavy breather off and keep the loud noise, or take the comp baffle off and get my damn low end back. TOUGH CHOICE! any suggestions? Probably will have to do cams. WOMP WOMP

Good to hear this. Just ordered my 2-1 pro pipes and had the competion bafle in the basket but decided to wait and hear what the standard baffle sounded like.
