My package arrived at lunch today. V&H ProPipe (black). I knew it would come on a Monday where I'd have to wait all week with it in the box...

You will love the pro pipe! You have the FP3?

Spazz, It was supposed to rain today so I pulled my pipes off last night to start install. I looked through the "how-to" you did on your install, but mine is a bit different since it is the black pipes, etc. Anyhow, couple of questions for you. Did you have any trouble getting your floorboard off? Mine is a b!tch for some reason. Front bolt no issue- finda tight but doable. Back bolt was a different story. Could not get it out. Came out about 1 turn..just enough for the bracket to be loosely flopping around, but them stopped. Could not turn it at all off, or back on!!
Started pipe installation with it hanging there. Everything is in place and nuts/bolts started loosely at jugs and bracket under tranny. This is the part where mine is different. I see from your photos that your header pipe is 1 piece. Mine is 2. So, the part where the pipes come together is not part of the header pipes, it is part of the "megaphone". Well, the 2 pipes when put loosely on the tranny bracket are not quite dar enough apart to get the megaphone on..I think the front pipe is hitting that dang floor board bracket and keeping me from adjusting enough to get them in line..Also, looks to me like those pipes are not going to fit into the back piece even if they lined up..seems to be same size, not smaller to slip in.
Anyway, long story short I could not ride today and hear the sweet new sound. :(
I know you don't have the same pipes, but if you have any ideas on that floorboard bolt let me know.

If those are any thing like the V&H head pipes you will need to get the floor board off. There are a couple of spacer washers to install to give you just a little more room from the pipe.

TomA hit the nail on the head... that floorboard needs to come off... no doubt about it since there is a spacer installed behind the mount Plate on the back bolt and washer spacers on the front for clearance. Get that floorboard off... you will have more wiggle room to mess with fitment and placement of the mid mount as well

Floor board is off..what a PITA that was. Looks like there was something in the threads gumming things up. Anywho, now getting the dang pipes into the "Y" shaped collector is a pain. Mine are not made the same as the chrome one. The collector on the chrome pipe is part of the headpipe, mine is part of the slip on. So, I have to line up the 2 head pipes perfectly and "tap" the bazooka muffler onto it..so, holding 2 pipes and a "y" shaped piece perfectly in line as another person uses a rubber mallet to tap the back of the slip on..fun, fun. Also, the 2 head pipes are almost the same exact size as the circumference of the "Y"..so, not easy. If I had known what a pain this pipe is to install, I would have taken it to a shop and paid someone to do it for me. Geez V&H, surely there is a better way..Why in the H3LL would the black pipe be different than the chrome one?!???!!!

Did you get the HO( high output) or just the pro pipe.... Maybe that's the difference cuz I wouldn't see why they would alter a pro pipe from black to chrome... that's just a finish

It is the HO version. I didn't really realize that when I bought it. It has been quite a pain though. If I had known I would have just gotten the standard chrome one and been riding already...

I don't want to make you feel bad, but that pipe is designed for modified engines... I don't know how well it will perform with just a stage I.... sorry bro... unless you have mods already.... plan on spending some money

That is what I have seen online. I bought it off of eBay and didn't realize it was HO, or what that even meant at the time. Thought I was getting a good deal since ProPipe black version is generally about 700 bucks. That is what I get for trying to save a few dollars.
I have seen a few people say it is fine with stock engines though.

The standard pro pipe can be bought for $585...last I looked... Check Iron Aces Speedshop.. they are a vendor here.. I got mine from them in July last year

Yeah, I know. I was all set to order one from Fuel Moto, out the door for about 590 I think..but, when I saw the black one for 499 (NIB) I thought I was getting a better deal. I should have known I'd get bit in the arse for trying to save a couple of dollars on a pipe that would have been 700...live and learn.

There are a few people around here that are running that pipe on stage 1 set up bikes without any major issues. You will lose some low end. It was made for a larger motor to move larger volumes of air.
It sounds great on a modified motor.
When it first came out back in 2009 I think, it was hard to get. There were complaints of heat off that thing but I think they worked that out.

I finally got these pipes on last night..tightened everything up and fired it up. Sound great..DEEEEEEEEEEP rumble that gets louder with speed. Lol. I had to work hard to keep it under 70 riding home from my buddy's house. I do get some occasional backfire and a little decal pop, but not bad. It was raining a bit this morning, but that was not going to stop me from riding to work. :) Smiling all the way.
I guess FP3 will be my next purchase when the wife forgets about the money I spent on these pipes.
