New to the forum, just bought a 2014 SGS. I have read allot about pipes, stage one etc. but am still confused. I'm not looking to do a full stage one but would like to install V&H slip ons. Will this cause me any problems if I do not do the intake or head pipes? Will I have to map or use a fuel managment sysytem? Will it increase heat? I have a route 66 trip planned in July from Amarillo to LA, it will be hot...will this add do that. All I am looking for is a bit more rumble. My dealer seems to be at odds with these questions. He wants me to drop $3000.00 on a full stage one.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have the V&H Big Shot slip on's on my 2013 SG with no tuning and 5500 miles with no problems. Heat was not an issue. I actually bought the mufflers from my local dealer and was told it wouldn't need any program, head pipes, or intake. They sound really nice. Deep and rumbly

$3k for a stage 1? Really??? Are all the parts gold plated?

Pipes $550. A/c $500 (high end)


Nightrider tuner $119 or a auto tune from fuelmoto $300

Thats about $1500 max with shipping. So they want $1500 to install?


I went with CFR slip on mufflers and nightriders FL-VIED-10 tuner.

Hey Troopster-14FLHX is correct. You don't need to shell out $3K for your needs!!! Heck I didn't spend anywhere near that amount for full headpipes, slip-ons, tuner and A/C ! ! ! AND, My HD Dealer did the install ! ! ! ! ! ! Folks on this forum will be your "best friend" as you ramp up.

I ran slip on mufflers with the stage 1 upload for 2 years before upgrading to full pipes an tuner. 300 +300 = 600.00 ! Bike ran great and cooler!

I would check with a different dealer if you can. Get some more prices and make them compete with one

I've got a 2012 streetglide and i put on a Power Commander V, V&H Dresser Duals,V&H Twin Slash Rounds, and an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Air Cleaner & had my dealer do the install & my bill was only around $1500.00.. Go price elsewhere!!!
 
Thanks all for your insights and advice. Very much apprecieted. I am only a short diatnce away from the US border and will see what the dealers in Washingtoin State can do for me.

I bought the VH Dresser Duals,Mach2 Air intake,PCV tuner and am ordering the VH High Output Slip Ons next week for my 2013 FLHX. Install is $200.00 at my local speed shop. I got tired of paying Harley to do work that former HD Mechanics will do for a fair price. HD wanted $400.00 for a dyno tune plus another $400.00 for install. Local shop said that a dyno tune is only needed if changing cams or doing other internal upgrades. Not to mention my 5000 mile service is getting close and HD of corder wants close to $500.00 where as this place I'm going to charges under $300.00. Changed my perspective for sure. Saving cash means bigger upgrades!
 
I bought a '14 SGS and I first put on screaming eagles slip ons,didn't like them, thunderheader cannons slip ons, same result and just put on CFR slip ons. CFR's are by far the best sounding pipes I have heard. Everything engine wise is stock. I have had no problems at all with heat or anything else. Highly recommend them. This winter I plan on getting some type of high flow A/C on the bike, thunderheader head pipes and screaming eagle pro tuner.
 
You can certainly use your best judgement on when to have Harley do work and when to do it yourself or at your favorite business. Harley dealers $80 to $90 an hour is way out of line for doing most add-ons like pipes, bling or fluid changes. But when major work and special tools are needed, the dealer is usually the best way to go. With all the $$$ we waste err, invest in these machines it pays to do your repairs / service homework! :cool:
 
I agree, $90 an hour is OK as an hourly service charge rate for high tech or difficult work. It just ain't worth payin' that for an easy job you can do yourself.
 
Yep my wife's bike going in today for wheel bearing change. Can I do it myself yea but don't really have the time so the $90 an hour is fine.

For whatever it may be worth, I just installed V&H twin slash ovals and am exceedingly pleased with the sound. No ill effect in performance has been noted, understandably since I still have the stock/standard OEM AC. No remapping required.
 
I have the twin slash rounds with power dual head pipe and it will make some noise for sure
