Stage 1 with stock muffler

Ok, so getting a bike again after 35+ years without one a guy just has to do a stage 1, right.
My goal was better performance, eliminate the cat and get a cooler running engine. I wasn't looking for a louder bike although a little throatier would have been OK.
So I put on a set of Rush power duals, Fuel Moto AC and Crusher 4" slash with their mellow baffle. It's got a great sound at idle, twist her ear and it barks pretty good.
The problem is it's a little louder than I want cruising. I know there's a ton of "quiet performance " mufflers out their with quiet baffles and so on, I just don't want another set that I'm not happy with. That's why I'm thinking stock. I was wondering if I went back to a stock muffler would their be a problem running the Rush headers and FM AC.
I know it will need to be retuned. I've got the FP3 so that should be easy. Any thoughts welcomed.
 
I think stock CVO mufflers sound good with a stage 1, better than stock SGS mufflers.

Old Mike and I have it Dialed in with CVO muffs. I wrote a thread about them awhile back. After researching I found they flow way better than the stockers and can be used up to 100 HP. They are stock on 110" CVO bikes and can be had on eBay for a reasonable price. THE KEY, get 2014 or newer cause they flow better and flow the same on each side. Might be the same on 2010 and newer but can't say for sure

Blues & OldMike, I was looking at the CVO's as a possibility. I've seen them mentioned here and elsewhere. Are they a little louder than stock or closer to some of the aftermarket slipons.
 
Yes they are a bit louder and have a nice tight sound but are not obnoxious and are stamped with EPA approval. In my time I have had drag pipes, V&H long shots, etc, yadda, yadda, and now with 64 year old ears these CVO muffs are just right. As an option there are you tube vids showing CVO baffle replacement with Fullsac cores. Www.fullsac.com but then your back to making noise.
Got my 2014 CVO take offs on eBay for $200. I would do this mod again

Blues, are you running yours with stock head pipes and cat? Would it be safe to say that with the headers and no cat I have. it would be a little louder because there may be more volume going in? Or not?
 
I'm running stock head pipe and cat w F/M intake same as you. I would think the sound might be deeper with no cat but probably not much louder. I just checked eBay and there are a couple nice sets available now

I have a Fuel Moto 2-1-2 head pipe, Power Vision tuner and stock air cleaner. The bike did not sound good with the stock SGS mufflers but I'm very happy with the CVO muffler sound. It's loud enough for me on the street and does not beat me up on the freeway, bike runs good and about 44 miles per gallon of gas.

OldMike, Thanks for the input. I picked up a used set on ebay last night. Gonna give them a try.

I think you're going to like the performance @ sound level you get from these once you get it dialed in.
 
One last thing. Is the muffler HD uses on the CVO different than their screaming eagle mufflers like the street cannon or other SE mufflers

I would say they are different but I don't know anything about the other mufflers.

Blues and OM, Thanks for your advise on the CVO's. Ive got about 450 miles on them and so far pretty happy. Still has a nice rumble at start up and idle (so chicks will think I'm pretty cool). They have a little bark when I get on it but quiet down nicely when cruising. I'm running a FP3 that I auto tuned and didn't change a thing and she seems to run just fine. Less noticeable decel pop. I'm sure its still there, just can't here it as much because of the quieter mufflers.

Glad your happy with the CVO muffs. Thanks for your report. Reasonably priced the $200 CVO take offs are perfect for my old ears, look nice, and perform well. Enjoy
