So I know stage 1 is air cleaner, pipes and tuner. What is 2,3 and 4. How far can you go without sacrificing reliability? I'm seriously considering a ProCharger because it will produce close to 140HP with nothing more than the stage 1 mods. It looks pretty coll too. Cost is about $6500, but I figure by the time I did everything to a NA engine to get that, it would be about the same...maybe more.

The stage terms are somewhat outdated, and there probably isn't a single definition for the work beyond 1.
The old HD SE catalogs used to specifically list the parts and kits as "stage 1," "stage 2," etc. There are still some reference to it, but its a bit cloudier now.
So- here is my interpretation/memory:
Stage 1: pipes, air cleaner, and fuel managment
Stage 2: hot cams
Stage 3: header work (for example, the Sportster conversion kit to go from 883 to 1200 is the Stage 3 kit because it changes the headers)
Stage 4: all the other madness. The stage 4 kit in the HD catalog includes heads, throttle body, cams, pistons, pushrods, and clutch.

And- going with a turbo would be the equivalent of getting the stage 4 done.
I did the stage 4 bit at time of purchase so everything was part of the original warranty. Including labor, are you still under $6500 for the turbo? I've never ridden anything like that- and Im sure my stage 4 does not compare HP/T wise to what you're looking at.

I can do a turbo a little cheaper, but I like the response of blower better. Turbos also pump a ton of heat and that's hard to deal with. ProCharger says 130-140HP on a stock engine. Since boost is directly proportional to RPM, if you ride easy, you'd never know it was a blown motor, but if turn it up over 3K, it turns into a beast. All of that without effecting drivability.

A friend just did a ProCharger on his '13 RG. He already had a big bore kit, cams, pipes, etc. after installing the blower it dynoed at 182HP. I talked to shop that specializes in tuning blown bikes. He said the HD crank can't handle more than 190HP.

I don't know about the HP but for that kind of money put this in it and be done with it.

This is quite simple:
Stage 1: pipes, air cleaner, and fuel mgmt. $$
Stage 2: hot cams. $$$$$$$$$$$$
Stage 3: header work. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Stage 4: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

That's only 106HP for about the same money...Hard to the bang for the buck of the blower.

Who cares about the money....the banks got plenty to lend! Just get the crate engine and THEN put a blower on it....heck thats what I'd do if I were you....

What a bummer- can't get over 190 HP- weak.

Pathetic, isn't it. :) Guess I'll have to do a BBC retrofit.

Seriously though...he told me that if he rides it hard it just blows the back tire off. WAY too much HP for a daily driver. I like the idea of going from stock to 130HP in an afternoon though.

Definition of just enough horsepower:
The ability to leave black strips of rubber on acceleration from the exit of a curve all the way to the braking point of the next curve.
