I wanted to share some information with those who are currently running, or plan to run a SE Ventilator Elite AC. So far, I have used the SE non oiled filter (which can be washed in Dawn dishwashing soap) and the K&N replacement filter (which can be cleaned and oiled). Here is what I have discovered thus far after going through two SE filters and two K&N filters with different part numbers:
1. When the SE filter gets wet, the mesh screen will rust and be visible on the filter element. When this happens (and it will), the filter will look like crap.
2. There are two K&N filter part numbers that are supposed to fit the AC. The part numbers are as follows:
Part# 0910 - While this filter does fit nicely on the AC backing plate, the outer diameter of the filter is about 1/8" too big and will not allow the AC cover to be installed without causing damage to the filter. Note: This filter can be purchased online from many MC vendors.
Part# 29400022A - Is the correct replacement filter and it even has the Harley emblem stamped on it. Note: This filter can only be purchased at the dealer.
This is just an FIY, as the price of these filters range from $50 - $70, depending on where you purchase them. I am sure that no one wants to buy a filter that kind of fits, when they can buy one that does fit. I bought one of each (which is how I discovered the fitment issue to begin with) and will only be using Part# 0910 as a temporary replacement between cleanings, so that I won't have any down time if I wish to ride. Note: This will require the purchase of an Allen set screw at your local hardware store, to plug the hole that the AC cover bolt threads into. I recommend using red loctite on the set screw, so that it doesn't vibrate loose and get sucked into the engine.
