Hi all,
Just bought a pair of SE Street Cannons 2 days ago after taking a ride on a demo Ultra at my dealership with a set on. Love the sound and downshifting puts a grin on my face every time.
But tonight, went for a 50 mile ride and couldn't wait to get back home using the freeway. The heat coming from the right muffler is unbearable. Is this normal??? My bike is a 14 SGS completely stock. Just pulled the OE mufflers off and put these slip-ons. I could do with a little more heat but this... No way.

So, is there a way around this excessive heat? Because at this point, I'm seriously considering taking them off and selling them. It's that bad.

Thanks for any input.

Hulkss has those same pipes I'm pretty sure you will have to hit him up and see if he has that problem

Yeah I would pm hulkss he may know something about them. Maybe it needs the A/C open to breathe

I don't notice any heat from the mufflers. Hell, they are way back under the saddle bags.

Now the cat converter is said to feel hot but my leg and foot is way forward of it so I have never noticed that either. I don't feel any heat on my thigh but I have the Police seat so I'm up about 3 inches from stock.

Maybe your whole engine is hot from running lean if you did not re-tune for the pipes. I am using a download tune from H-D.

As a matter of fact, I did not reflash the computer as I was told by the dealership that these pipes did not need any tune. But the heat does not seem to come from the mufflers themselves but rather from the pipe in front of it on the right side. You might be onto something with the lean running...

Thanks again and I will give the dealer a call in the morning. Because not only is this not enjoyable, but I fear it may damage the engine...

The fat pipe right in front of the muffler (on the right side) is the Cat Converter. It will always be pretty hot.

Appalooza- Many de-cat their head pipe or buy headers to escape the heat. A couple of cheaper fixes would be;
Harley Frame heat shields like the ones that come stock on the Ultra
(I have them).
www.nightrider.com VIED to richen up your A/F ratio.

Hulkss - Update.
Went to the dealer this morning and unfortunately, the service dept was closed. But I had a chat with a salesman who used the demo Ultra with the Street Cannons on over the week-end and he agreed to the fact that the cats were unusually hot...

So, I'll have a talk with the head mechanic tomorrow and will probably end up with the same set-up you have. I was missinformed from the start thinking I could just put these mufflers on without a re-map but, in the end, if that's what it takes to have the bike run properly, I'm good with that :)
To be continued...
Thanks again.

Well, had a talk with the head mechanic at the dealership and he was surprised by the heat issues caused by the mufflers. So he's looking into it and he made me a couple offers...

1 - They take the mufflers back ( but I really like the way they sound)
2 - I go for a full set-up, V&H headers, SE A/C, HD programmer and dyno time on the house to fine tune the set-up :)

Right now, even though we're talking extra $$$, I'm leaning towards option 2. My only concern is that he told me the mufflers would get louder with this set-up and I don't wanna go overboard with sound levels and lose the music... Not to mention Quebec laws on noise...

Anyway; so far, I've got nothing but good words about Vision Harley Davidson and I'm sure the outcome will turn out good.
To be continued

Go for option #2... letting them dyno for free is a big cost saver... if they do their job right and get it dialed in correctly. Ask around and see how many dyno techs they have and who is the best, then request him to do your work.

Do not run the Street Cannons without the stock head pipe. You will probably not like the the resulting sound as they are designed to work with the cat converter. They will be very loud and nasty. Removing the cat converter is a way over rated mod in my opinion. With the download tune from H-D my bike runs great and is not too hot. Just add a high flow air cleaner and the download tune. No dyno tuning needed, this set-up has been developed at the factory.

Thanks for the advice. :)

This is great input. Thanks Hulkss. The mechanic did say they would be louder and I don't want that. So, he's trying to find out if the V&H headers would work with stock exhausts and the rest of the recipe. If not, then your set-up is next.
I do appreciate the info.
Thanks again :)

Update...
Lots things happenned since last post. So, got fed up with the heat on my right leg and sold the street cannons. Bought the thunder 3.5" street performance and the heat was still there. Bought SE ac and xied-10 and now the heat's gone and I'm a happy rider. Well, that was until I made a quick stop at a dealer in Plattsburgh and saw the set-up I really want now. Power duals with monster rounds. Man... That is nice :) Not to mention that the dealer made me a good deal on it. So now, I'm definitely confused as to what fuel management I should go with. I have no plans of any other mods as far as engine goes.

So what are your thoughts guys? Harley SE download, FP3, Power commander???? Or. is xied-10 enough for this set-up?
I know I know. Had I gone this way in the first place, I would've save some $$$$. Live and learn as they say. Any help/opinions wil be greatly appeciated.

Power duals have reduced ground clearance and will drag if you are into cornering 'till the floorboards touch. Probably be OK with 13" shocks in place of the 12" lowered shocks that are standard on Street Glide.

This what I have read, not what I know from experience.

IMHO- I think you'll be just fine with the XIED (Based on prior experience) however, When you're ready to go to the next level there are soooo many options. I'm hearing great things about the FP3 and with that, everytime you change air, exhaust or fuel - the FP3 can adjust.

Clearance

Clearance

What Hulkss said is what my HD Service mgr. told me. He said several SG owners had clearance issues in tight turns with the Power Duals. I loved them on my Road King but because of that I chose True Duals for this new scoot and haven't dragged once.
