Remove the baffles or the cat (or both???)

I am not too concerned with the loss of a small amount of HP or torque, as long as it is not too much. I am more interested in gaining a better and louder sound out of my bike. With that in mind, would I be better off removing the baffles from my V&H Twin Slash Rounds, or removing the catalytic converter to get a better sound? What if I did both?

I have a 2014 SG and will make changes after I decide which tuner and breather I want to buy. I already bought some headers with the cat cut out, so I will go that route before I consider removing baffles.

Ideas?

I would start by removing the cats....you'll get a little more power and certainly less heat coming from the pipes.

I agree... lose the cat and you lose the heat with it.. and gain a better sound and better flow.... have a tuner yet? FP3 is great tuner and easy to use... especially since you have their slipons....

Removing the baffles won't necessarily make your bike sound better. Try the cat removal first. Fuel management would be next.

I put a 2-1-2 header on to remove the cat, that is all I did.
The bike is louder and sounds different. I'm not a fan of the Twin Cam sound but the stock exhaust sounded good to me, I won't get that back unless I put the bike back to stock. I changed the head pipe to get rid of heat.
There are a lot of people here chasing their tail with different combos of head pipe and mufflers trying to gain better sound so good luck with that.
Change your head pipe since you already have it and tune it, one change at a time. NOBODY here can tell you what is going to sound better, it's something you have to find by listening to other bikes or taking them for a ride.

Since I was low on $$$ this summer, I tried removing the baffle. Sounded ok until I let someone else ride my bike. Then I got to hear what it really sounded like. Hated the sound, sounded too hollow and tinny.

msquad- That is SO true . . . . A bike sounds completely different when your riding it and when your listening as someone else rides it.

Yeah, so unless you let someone ride your bike you don't really know how it sounds (I found). I'm glad I let someone ride it and got to find out how awful drilled out baffles sound.

I had a Rocker C with Big Radius pipes and those were on my right side and appeared louder to me than my street glide. I guess the pipes out the back are part of that. Seems like taking the baffles out may not sound like a good idea. I'm not in a rush to do that. Thanks for the input on the baffles. I'm currently leaning toward the V&H fuelpak 3 tuner. Once I select a tuner I am going to finish this project.
