Relative newbie ready to upgrade exhaust - need help deciding order to proceed

Looking to upgrade my 2015 SGS, ultimately with new header pipe, AC, tuner and slip-ons. Seeking that sweet spot of deep sound (but not too loud), good looks, and increased performance - in that order. Like a lot of forum members, I am finding the toughest decision is what slip-ons to choose. Was leaning towards CFR's for the sound, but they may be a little too loud, seem tough to come by, and you read about losing low end torque. So I want to do a little more research and listen to as many exhaust systems as I can early in the riding season before I pull the trigger.

In the meantime I want to get going with some upgrades, in the hopes of at least reducing heat and possibly gaining a little performance. Plus, not doing all four pieces at once will improve my cash flow a bit, assuming the slip-ons will be the most expensive purchase. I feel like I am doing it backwards, as most everybody seems to start with slip-ons to get better sounding exhaust. But is it reasonable to expect some improvements if I start with new headers, AC (I just purchased Big Sucker II) and tuner, taking my time to choose the right slip-ons for me? Can I do this with stock mufflers? Thanks.

Suggested choice 1:
V&H X Pipe
V&H Twin Slash slip on's
V&H FP3 Auto tuner
Stock A/C is already pretty good but there are several on the market to choose from.

Suggested choice 2:
Rush Ceramic coated True Duals
Rush 3.5 baffled Slip on's.
V&H FP3 or Micro EFI (from Fuel Moto)

Suggested choice 3:
A complete system designed for power from Fuel Moto!

Thanks Mojo. I am talking with the folks at Fuel Moto so I think I'm on the right track. Very impressed with their customer service.

Fuel Moto is tops in their field with very high quality products and superior customer service! And, they help sponsor this great Forum ! ! !

Plus one on Mojo's first choice. That's what I'm running and they are deep and make noise when you want it. Have noticed they are getting a little louder as they get worn in.

Don't forget to look at the V&H and the D&D 2 into 1 systems, big improvements in torque and mid to upper rpm performance!

Thanks Slingshot. I actually had V & H pro-pipe on my 2004 Road King. I inherited it when I purchased the bike used, and at the time did not understand why it was better performance wise Plus, I liked the look of dual exhaust better. However, now that its gone I can better appreciate the performance it gave me and I did like the sound. So a 2 into 1 is not off the table.

If you like V/H... the Pro Pipe 2-1 is your choice for performance... if you want the dual look, look into the OS 450'S or High Outputs. Once you get the slip ons, you can then get the jackpot 2-1-2 header that fits under factory shields or go with V/H Power Duals head pipe. I would stick with V/H personally.

Tom, that seems to be about any system. I have Screamin' Eagles Street Cannons and when I first got them, they weren't exactly loud enough and certainly nothing like my V&H's on my other bike but now they are really loud.....I like em.

I'm like you. I did slip ons first (CFR) and then I did the air cleaner (Roland Sands Clarity) and the tuner (FP3) at the same time. I ordered my headers on Friday and expect them this coming week. I chose the V&H Dresser Duals. I thought I wanted the Power Duals but decided I like the ride and feel now so why go after more power now.

Thanks Yegg. I'm assuming you are happy with the CFR's? Sound is great but did they tune okay?

I have not dug too deep as to where to purchase. Do you know who is carrying them these days?

The sound is at least 85% better than stock. Tuning was no problem at all. I only had a little bit of decel pop but smoothed it out with the auto tune feature on the FP3. In fact, that was why I bought the FP3. After I had that, I figured, what the hell, and I got the air cleaner as it was a simple install. Now I have a few extra bucks hidden from the wife and I ordered the headers. I got a great price on them (which is how I settled on them in the end) and there are very few bad reviews. I think they will be in by Monday so I can start my installation next week. I may even take a day off for it rather than try and do it in the evening in my garage.

I got my slip ons, headers, and tuner from Hogpro out of California. They beat every price I found online. They even had the slip on CFRs in stock and shipped same day. They did mention that the fancy tips are usually on back order a bit. I like them but decided to go simple.

I was in a similar position with my 16, I was ready to upgrade and done all the research, wanted dresser duals, with CFR slip ons...

I wound up going with the V&H power duals, V&H monster rounds, Dynojet Power Vision Tuner, and an Arlen Ness Big Sucker stage 2 A/C.

I love it, the sound is loud when going throttle up, and then a mellow rumble when cruising. I have stock audio and can hear it fine when cruising. I would recommend anything I have used to other riders, this was my third bike and by far IMO V&H is the way to go. But best wishes no matter which direction you should choose. I have a post of the dyno sheet on the 2016 discussion forum under parts and dyno, you can also see the pic of the bike as it looks now.

Good Luck and have fun with this process!!!!

CFR slip ons are pretty loud. My buddy has them with stock headers and they are loud. If you really want a dual system Rhinehart's have some of the best performance, but that's headers and mufflers. If you just want slip ons they also make a head pipe that you can switch to later. They get kinda loud when you gag on the throttle, but they are pretty quite at idle and cruising. If you want performance you can't beat a good 2-1. I have the D&D Boss Fat Cat with medium baffles. I have herd a lot of people say even their quite baffles are loud. Look on Amazon and you can get a Thunder-Max ECM for around $730 which is actually cheaper than a power commander and dyno tuning. Another good option is the Power vision by power commander, but if you by the wide band O2 sensors your now at the same price as the better performing Thunder-Max. AC is easy if you want it too look good it'll cost you. If you want the stock look get the Arlen Ness big sucker for around 100 bucks.

Me: V&H Dresser Duals with CFR slip ons. It's loud and can get kinda annoying on long rides with my full face lid on due to the echo in side the lid. Only thing I'd change would be the head pipe to a X pipe setup to help with the loss of back pressure and regain a bit of the power that's lost by the CFRs.

Anyone have the V&H "450 Titans" or the "450 Destroyers " slip ons ? Both are 4 1/2" dia. Also considering the 4" "Eliminators" I want loud when im on it and a more mellow tune when cruzing. Love the looks of the 4 1/2's . Do you get the popping with just the slip ons when not running the headers?

I'll throw out the Rineharts, had them on the last two bikes.
Good sound..

My dresser duals are on and paired with my CFRs. I've only been able to take a quick ride but love the sound.
