Back in 2014 when I was doing research on my 2015 SGS and what exhaust I planned on getting, I remember reading a post on HDforums about Rinehart end caps and how they turn sort of purplish after a while. Google rinehart end caps, and you'll probably find it. If I recall, it said to go out and ride your bike, heat up the mufflers then use a rubber mallet after fasteners are out. They "supposedly" come off easier when hot.
You might also try a product called PB Blaster (spray for loosening rusted marine fasteners). Then, tap it a few times with rubber mallet after the blaster sits for awhile. Also a strap wrench to get 'em wobbling back and forth.

I think it has a lot to do with "galvanic corrosion" (what happens when dissimilar metals are in contact over a period of time).
The PB Blaster Penetrating Catalyst (after being allowed to penetrate and relieve the corrosion) will work best with maybe just "slight" tapping with the rubber mallet to jar the surfaces in contact might do the trick. Mated Aluminum & Steel don't play well together.
PB Blaster Penetrating Catalyst is available at Home Depot, Ace H/W, Wally world, etc.
Great stuff to have on the shelf in your shop or garage. Haven't found too many corroded fasteners & parts it won't loosen up. Boaters love it.

This is funny, I actually have the black caps on my bike and they are still fresh black as can be. I've seen a lot of them that have turned colors. But mine are still good. I'm actually thinking of switching to chrome caps because I think they look better

I had heard that, for awhile, Rinehart was replacing the faded "purple" caps with NEW Black anodized caps done with a new anodizing process that were supposed to be fade resistant. All you had to do was contact them and I think email a photo and they would pay for shipping your slip-ons both ways. Don't know if they're still doing that. It was quite a while ago. THEY'd had numerous complaints.
I switched mine out for some performance machine ones. Took out the screws and wiggle them a little and they came right off. I just wanted to change the look mine were still in perfect shape.
