What is the Hex Plug for (next to the oil drain plug), and why are we told not to remove it??

I ask because I removed it accidentally during an oil change. I discovered it to drain the same oil that would have come from the drain plug. Please explain. Thanks

Appreciate the video. Very well done. It did not address the "hex plug" I'm referring to. The plug I'm talking about is directing next to the crankcase drain plug and is removed with an Allen wrench. If you check the owners manual under "oil change", it is numbered "3" and says Do Not Remove. There has to be a reason why it's there and why they say to not remove it.

From what I've read on other forums, that plug is tapered so the possibility exist of cracking the case if the plug is over-tightened.

That is the location that I installed my oil temp sender unit when I installed my Medallion gauges. No issues, works great.

Manual says it's a tapered pipe plug. No other info.
