Push starting when starter fails

So, my starter failed to start a few times this weekend. I was able to turn the bike off (once or twice) and then it started, so no big deal, right?

Well, I'm concerned about my trip to Deals Gap NC next month. Since we'll be camping, we may not be close to civilian life (exaggerating a bit, I know). But, I was wondering if push starting a fuel injected motor has any repercussions?

Or should I try to replicate the issue at the dealer (which I'm pretty sure I won't be able to) and hope they find a problem and fix it?

As long as your pump runs when you turn the key on you'll be able to push start it. Remember to use 2nd gear good luck just got back from a week in the gap

Get a new battery. The one I have listed in my signature made a big difference. Got it from Amazon.

You obviously have warranty and this is a good time to use it. Has the Bike thrown a code? May or may not be the battery. Could be a loose regulator plug, compression release issue, or any number of things. The dealer should run a draw down battery test and can run diagnostic tests on starting related issues.
You won't be the first one to report an electrical ghost to the dealer.

So, if you remember, I had a problem with my cruise control not working - it fixed itself - but the issue happened again, and with this starter problem, I decided to bring it into the dealer to check it out.

Sure enough, there was a problem with the hand control - but they are on back order, so I'd have to wait until the end of the month to get the controls...But, I took this as an opportunity to upgrade to lighted controls, just paying the difference from the warranty repair.

By the way - 2,200 miles in 5 days and no issues with cruise, gear indicator or starter.

Happy that worked out for you.....Keep the shiny side up!!

I tried push starting mine after running the battery down while listening to the radio. Tried several times down hill in second gear and the back tire just slid each time. I ended up having to walk back up the hill to my house to get my Jeep, drive back down and use my jumper cables to get it started. I have jumped fuel injected sport bikes in the past though, with no problems afterwards.

bright enough. Softly lit, I would say. I took these pics in the garage - might give you enough reference.
