Plastic bag melted on my exhaust

I heard if you take a nickel and scrape it on the exhaust, it will take the melted plastic bag off of the exhaust without scratching the chrome. I've tried a few different chemicals and nothing has worked. Anyone try the nickel method, does the pipes have to be hot or cool for it to work.

I used easy off oven cleaner before, works well. I would be scared trying to use a nickel.

EZ OFF oven cleaner on hot pipes. Let it set for a few minutes and should wipe right off.
Finger Nail polish with ACETONE works well also.
Be very careful with overspray. Either will raise hell with painted surfaces.

If you are patient, it will eventually burn off on it's own.

What if this happens on all black pipes.....I wonder if the easy off would mess up the coating.
