Has anyone painted their HD badges? What type of paint and how did you do it? Brush? Take off and spray? I am talking about the tank badges, the inside part where it is black...thinking it might look good orange on my black bike..thoughts?

Might look good! Especially with matching plug wires!
Would be tough to mask and spray and get everything perfect. Might be better done with a brush. Either way I would use an etching primer to make sure the enamel paint sticks. Either red or orange! Could also pinstripe the air filter cover badge for accent.
If you decide to do it Post a picture of the finished project and describe your method.

I honestly thought about this.... a high-end paint marker might do the trick... thought about red on mine....

Red was also a consideration..Now I'm torn!! The plug wires is a good idea also.

"Badges, we don't need no stinkin badges"
You took the badges off but not those ugly orange fork reflectors?!

You know...I kinda like that look without the tank badges. But at the same time, I like them there, too... Ugh. Now I don't know what I want to do.

I think Farmboy is probably a BadA&& rider and the tank badges were sucked off from sheer speed! LOL
Does have a nice sinister look to it though!

I was considering some road glide badges? Although now that I think about it orange would look pretty darn cool.

Well the original plan was to pull the stock ones and replace with that round skull used on the CVO road glide. But the bare look is kinda growing on me.
who knows?

This is not exactly what you talked about doing but close enough to give you an idea of how it could turn out. This is my wife's sportster tank. I repainted it a different color basecoat and then several coats of clear. After wetsanding the clear until totally smooth I applied a stock HD tank decal. Then I added more coats of clear until the decal was very thoroughly covered (almost no perceptible edge). Then after wetsanding again the black flames and outline pinstripe were added by hand with a brush and allowed to dry. Then more coats of clear until the entire mess could be wetsanded and buffed with almost no feel to the decal and none at all of the flames and stripes.

Ive removed my reflectors no problem, but Ive been told removing the tank badge can be a bit more tricky and may damage the paint underneath.
No biggie if you are repainting but if you just want them off and a nice finish left behind is this a risky move or are you guys having no issues with removal?

Mine came off no problem, didn't hurt the finish. Heat gun or hair drier to warm up the adhesive. When it got soft I used fishing line and came in behind the badge with a sawing motion. In doing it I put more outward pressure on badge rather Tha the tank. A little 3m adhesive remover and no sign of badge in the first place.

This post got me to thinking, I know dangerous or expensive right. So since I own a peace officer special edition I was thinking of either having the Harley Davidson lettering painted in some color of blue or gloss black and see if my guy can either paint or pin strip a blue line across the lettering, opinions?

I have the Peace Officer badge too. Being all one color, makes it very boring looking. I have given thought to painting part of it, but I just can't come up with a method that won't look like crap. Good luck with your project and post some pics when you finish.
