2014 SGS. I'm looking at doing apes. I'm 6'8". Right now I am leaning toward the Carlini Menace Apes 14". What's some other options with pros and cons? Do the 14" need the extension kit? What surprises am I going to run into if I do it myself? Should I just let HD take it on? Is there a concern or the ignition system? ABS? Does anybody have a parts breakdown of the factory parts? A manual? Super curious here to get the best product for the best money. I am mechnically inclined so I don't think that is an issue, but I also don't want to screw my warranty or get into something super complicated that I could pay to have done if that makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

You will need wire extensions and longer cables. I haven't done my bars yet, they just came in so hopefully I can start them soon. I went with Vindikta bars.

RoscoeKang.........I'm in the same boat. I've decided on bars but not sure if I want to tackle it myself or bite the bullet and have someone do it. I'm planning on doing heated grips and lighted switches at the same time. That might put me over the edge.
What ever you decide you defiantly want a service manual. I just picked one up from Kutter Harley for about $48 on the advise of another member. If your planning on doing any work its a must have.

I can confirm that 12" bars only need wire extensions... I used NAMZ 8". The TBW ( Throttle By Wire ) harness is plenty long enough from the factory to use up to 16" +.
I never had to break into the hyd systems of either brake or clutch.. BUT.... you can do a re-route of lines all in tact just by removing the levers and feeding the unit down under the fairing and back up the way you want.
Now... with this being said... I have heard of $1800 installs at HD... no joke. Of course that is total package.
There is a VERY GOOD possibility that 14" bars will fit WITHOUT replacing hyd lines with a good reroute... the reason I say this is because a member on HDFORUMS by the name of SIXSHOOTER has pics of 16" Prime Ape bars on his sled with STOCK HYD LINES. He did a major reroute thru the triples, but it worked for him.
The biggest issue I can think of is ensuring your TBW is fed thru the bars WITH the hand controls on the right side. Tape up the green connector tightly on the TBW so you don't disconnect it as you are fishing it thru the bars.
Also... with 12" bars... the stock wire connectors BARELY come thru the bars... that being said, you may have to connect extensions to the wires BEFORE fishing thru the bars are 14" or larger... unless you purchase full length extension kits that you cut-to-length and terminate on a new connector.

I am installing 12" yaffe monkey bars right now. I have done a lot of studing and my personal andvice for the 2014 SG is 12' and under your fine with only namz by wire, and switch wire extentions. Any taller and you will want to extend the clutch and brake if you want it done right. If you can be comfortable with 12" you can do the gob yourself. Total cost for parts was $375 for Yaffe Monkey bars and $ 70 for namz wire extentions.
Just got my 15 SGS back tonight with the new LA CHopper 14" Twin Peak Apes Installed. Also did grips, housings, braided lines & master cylinder covers. 14" were perfect for me as I am 6ft with a 36" arm reach. I wasn't about to tackle a job like this. Left it to the pros( independent shop) not HD. Here's a pic to give you an idea. And with 14's you will need a cable extension kit. most are matched up with the new Bar setups
