I’ve the 2016 SGS and I’ve a USB stick with over 2K tunes (I’m a mobile DJ so I have **** load of songs at my disposal - and create different sticks to fit my mood).
Problem is, whenever I’m using media, it seems to play only about 30 or so of the same songs. I have all files in one directory (root) no folders or playlists. In the settings I have it set to random. All files are mp3 with same bit rate, etc. Seems to be worse when I skip forward on songs. Is it that have too many files, because when I riding, message on top of BOOM screen is always showing ‘reading’. Could it be that I have too many files?

Not too many because I have over 6000 songs. Other than that, my only guess might be the method used to format the stick.

I have the same problem any where I use a flash drive for playing music. So I usually just use a 2 gig flash drive.

I use a 16GB stick with 850 songs. I have to use the "artist" tab to get all of the songs. Using the "album" tab doesnt see all the songs for some reason. But now i am unable to switch back to "random" so ........ And any song copied without using the internet will be listed as "untitled or "unknown artist" and labeled as track 1, 2 etc.

While you're looking at all the things that can make your music hiccup, please remember that ALL USB sticks are NOT alike! Use a quality USB stick made for Audio/video playback. Many of us have those cheapies we were given or collected at trade shows, etc. They're not recommended for playback duties.
Try brands like: Kingston, PNY or Sandisk and make sure they are USB 3.0 for faster transfer.

I would do back flips if I could get someone to load a USB stick full of music and send it to me. I would cover any expense.

Ok, mail me all your CD's you want loaded and then it will take me 80 manhours or so to load it. So at a mere $60 per hour you could cut me a check for say $5000, and i will get right on it ! :)

No I just want to copy yours. that should take you 15 mins. so at your rate I'll send you 15 bucks.

I have an Imation 8GB usb stick with over a 1000 songs and its USB 2.0 transfer rate and I have never had an issue, so it doesnt need to be the latest transfer rate

On your Harley, once you open the USB media option, select "find" in the top right corner, and then scroll down to select "playlist." All of your playlists will appear. Boom. Dang. I'm happy I finally figured this out.

just have to make your playlist

If you want your songs to show up with the correct name instead of "Unknown Artist" then you need to put the USB drive back into the computer and on each song that does not show up you have to
1.Right click on that song with your mouse
2.Click on properties
3.Click on details
4.Go to Title and add the Name of the song and if the Artist is not showing up go to Contributing Artist and add the name of the Artist
5.Click on Apply and OK
The Artist and name of the song will show up on the Radio in the proper folder instead of Unknown Artist folder.

I've been using a san disk 64gig Micro USB 3.0 drive with no problems. I have over 7000 songs which I add to weekly. I'm surprised it works because several thousand songs are in files by artist and also album names as exported from itunes with others just on the root of the drive.

I'd bet formatting maybe an issue. I did dump a few on a new drive for a boom workshop at local dealer and the drive would'nt play at all on their SGS. My drive is FAT32 formated.
