Lowering effect on wind buffeting

I rode a friend's SG the other day that has a 21" front tire and a lowered rear and the wind and buffeting was a night and day difference. And that was even with a stock windshield and no add on wind deflectors. Has anyone noticed a large difference by just lowering the rear or is it the combo of raised front and lowered rear that makes the difference?

Have never ridden one like that so can't honestly answer your question.

Sounds intriguing though. Something else to try really soon!!!

Wind direction can make a difference with buffeting, so to compare one bike to the next you probably would have to take the same ride. Wind deflectors are a lot cheaper than changing shocks and wheels, but interesting observation.

Thanks,
Mike

Ya, I'm going with the wind deflectors myself, I was just really surprised by the difference.

Wind deflectors on the bottom of fairing? Is that what you guys are referring to? I just bought my first SG and the buffeting is horrible. I have always ridden open front bikes without windshield, etc. I read somewhere that they were concerned with that during design and made special effort to cut buffeting and "beard uplift"..if so, they failed miserably. It beats me up and almost rips my sunglasses from my face. Sheesh!!

Referring to fork wind deflectors.

OldMike- You got that right ! ! ! When I left my Road King at the dealer and rode the new SGS home I was flabbergasted at the buffeting. I've since tamed the beast with a Clearview recurve shield, Fairing lowers and fork lowers. Now NO more issues.

Fork Fangs do the trick.... just added them about 3 weeks ago and can't believe the difference.... the 'beard lift' syndrome is 99% gone....

It's a love - hate thing: Hate the look but love the results!!!! And, my sunglasses don't flutter all over my face!

"fork fangs" ha ha ha ha ha

I did the klock werks 6.5" flare windshield and it knocked out most all of it for me. I may still add fairing deflectors at some point but they are no longer crucial.
