OK, here is a dumb question (as if you guys aren't tired of all of my dumb questions already).

So I bought a Roland Sands Design Clarity AC and installed it myself. This was definitely a case of I should not have read the instructions and just done it. But I did read the instructions and I did get confused but I got through it. But I digress.

I finished up too late last night and did not want to fire it up since the kids were asleep. Today, after work, I hopped on and went around the neighborhood. I was VERY confused! My right calf was digging into the air cleaner and it simply hurt. When I found a position I semi liked, it felt like I could not get to the rear brake pedal. Is this common or did I screw something up? Any easy fixes?

If I remember correctly, you are short and also new to riding. This can be normal with some air cleaners (my Arlen Ness Inverted one is similar and a bit prominent as well). It is not as noticeable if you are taller or have some floorboard spacers on.

This is a trade off and something that you "live and learn". Now you know why many other AC are designed a certain (read slim) way. The better "looking" ones though are often prominent.

Intake size

Yup, I'm short and new!

I came across floorboard spacers during an Internet search while sitting with my son as he was doing his homework. I ordered ones that will pave out my boards 1.25 inches. I also got an extended brake pedal.

I did look at the mounting surface and considered making my own extenders as I have a metal shop in my basement. I also considered new boards but I don't have CNC (I etch a sketch everything using a DRO).

The floorboard spacers will help some, but 1.25" is a lot!

Since you are new to motorcycling, you might not be scraping floorboards, but I often do (I run 3/4" spacers) since riding for years (previous Ducati, etc.) and I'm a bit more aggressive at times even on the big girl.

I still like the trade off - much more comfortable for sure.

What the hell, it's just money. if they seem too big, I'll get shorter ones. I went with 1.25" since it matched the pedal. I figured to keep them the same proportion I have now.
