My arms are about 2 inches too short for the stock handle bars on my 2014 SGS. My question is which reduced reach/pull back handle bars are best and why are they the best. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Welcome to the fun and I'm sure you will get some responses here soon. I ride with the stock bars and don't plan on changing mine unless I find something I really like.

Mean City Cycles seat mod can move you forward 2" and its cheeper then new bars.

I just had allen at mean city cycles do the super narrow mod on my seat, those guys are great! I absolutely love it

Agree about mean city cycle, they will be able to help you out and will be a lot cheaper.

I don't like the idea of a seat mod to reach the handlebars easier, and I don't see how a seat mod is a lot cheaper than a new set of handlebars.
My 2014 SGS is cramped already without being pushed closer to the front with a seat. I put Harley Batwing reduced reach bars on, no wiring, brake or clutch line mods needed.
These are a help but I still could use an extra inch of pull back.

Not to insult you my friend but how tall are you. The seat rework in about 250 and puts shorter riders forward new bars will be a lot more depending if you do them yourself or have them done. Most dealerships have seats you can test ride to see if they help. Some bring you forward and some push you back. Just something to look at. I'm 6-1 so I don't really have the reach problem until I lay back in my seat then I could use an inch or two. Everybody here will try and help its just how you process what they are telling you. God luck with your search and let us know what you come up with and you maybe helping someone else with the same issue.

OP asked for advice on handlebars, his arms are too short, I had the same problem. My feet reach fine, I'm 5'10" tall. In my opinion my 2014 SGS is cramped enough without getting closer, I JUST wanted to reach the bars easier.
My bars cost $150, put on by me.
No insult taken.

Ok buddy I see what you mean now.

I really appreciate the input, folks. I gave Harley's reduced reach seat a try and the move 2" forward was just too much for me. I did have Mean City narrow my seat and lower my position 1", awesome. Thanks for the input about Harley reduced reach bars. I was considering them but since they aren't quite long enough for a a 5'10" rider, I doubt they will do enough for a 5'7" rider like me.
Thanks Again

At 5'4" I too have rather short arms for the OEM bars on my '10 Street Glide so I ended up getting a set of Klock Werks Ergo Back Bars (link below). These certainly did a great job in getting the handlebars closer to me so I wasn't so stretched out on the bike. However, I did have some discomfort in my wrists mainly because I have a very small frame w/ narrow shoulders and hand positioning was not really suited for my narrow shoulder width. With that though, we have received a lot of great feedback, especially from men with broad shoulders, saying that they were extremely comfortable for them so I'd encourage you to take a look and see what types of feedback might be available on the forum about them.

Hopefully this helps and good luck with your search!!

btw...it's worth noting that the Ergo Back Bars are compatible with stock cables / brake lines.

So, what are you going to go with? In my research for pullback, I've found that almost all bars that offer extra pullback, are significantly wider than stock. If your reach is short, then this makes full tight turns difficult.
What have people found that offers more pullback than stock, but remains under- say- 34 inches wide?

I don't like them wide either, the Harley ones I installed are 31" measured at center of tube, end of bar.

How much higher and farther back are the Harley reduced reach bars compared to stock? Did you need to change cables or lines? Photos?

I put the khromewerks 2" sweepers oldmike referred to ... They worked great .. No need to extend anything.

I changed mine to the Harley Reduced reach on my 14 SGS and they did the trick for me at a very low cost ~$120 on line if I remember correctly. I put them on at the same time as adding Airfoil heated grips.

I was able to fish all wires (including the grips) through the bars and i't a much cleaner look.......I only needed the extensions for the stock wiring which I found in eBay for ~$20. The hydraulic lines were not an issue and fit after just a little adjustment.

All in all the extra reach took that little pain out of my neck after an extended ride and I really like the cleaner look of the internal wiring.......$140 and a couple of hours of work got it all done

I will throw my .02 in... being I am 5'7" short myself.

I'm guessing you are leaning forward and slouched a bit? lower back tends to get sore after extended rides?

A few tidbits of info to consider:

Pullback affects wrist angle....tends to force your elbows in toward your body.. almost to an unnatural position. BE CAREFUL on too much pullback on your selection.

Rise of bars will affect how you sit when static, in relation to positioning within the bar clamp... too far forward you lean forward with wrist angle being thrown outward....and too close you hands are lower and wrist angle is affected inward.

i went with 12" Yaffe Monkeys after sitting on many bikes with different bars. Each bike I sat on were setup for the particular rider, but you can get a FEEL for height and wrist angle pretty close. 12" YMB's have a 6-7" pullback ( can't remember exact)

Reason? Hands were just below shoulder height with elbows slightly bent sitting naturally with no lean forward or back. This was a very comfortable wrist angle for me as well. Sitting on someone else's bike gets you close... not perfect.

After initial install and setting up for LOOKS ( visual pleasing to the eye in relation to bodylines and orientation ) they were too far forward and I leaned forward. Back was screaming after 30 minutes! I was not happy with position.

So I loosened the clamp, rotated the bars toward me about 3" from the top of the fairing and snugged em up... now I was sitting upright, elbows slightly bent and comfy.... GREAT position! Tightened up the clamps and rotated the controls slightly to get a better position of hand controls, clutch and brake levers.

After this second go... I never touched them again.... PERFECT position on all aspects.

pic of me riding for reference:

Now keep this in mind... factory bars are approx 8"... if you go up 2" from EXACT position, the bars are about 1" closer to you... go up 4" ( 12" bars ) they are about 2" closer to you over factory. Take into consideration you can STILL ROTATE THE BARS CLOSER if you need them (which I did ) to get MY POSITION comfy.

Going UP in height of bar size isn't ALL about the look, comfort is a key factor as well.
