Hey gang, I'm in the discovery process for Stage I on my '15 SG. Looks like it'll be the V&H Power Duals with the High-Output slip-ons and FP-3 tuner. I'm wondering if there's a filter that will give Stage I performance, but fit inside the stock cover? I'd like to keep it if possible, but haven't seen good reviews on the Screaming' Eagle unit.

Thanks :)

I believe fuel moto make one. I'm selling my HD heavy breather if your interested in that style.

www.fuelmoto.com. Includes a Black CNC backing plate, and quality hardware and K&N filter. Looks stock but gives you all the air you need and it's not noisy. You don't have to be concerned with rain and the stock cover fits very nicely to the backing plate. I am very pleased with mine. The stock cover is at the stock position and does not interfere with your leg

Vance & Hines makes the VO2 Intake Naked Product ID: 71029, Parts/Drag ID: 1010-1611 that uses the stock cover. I have it on my '15 SG.

I run the stock Harley filter, fits best with the stock cover and flows plenty of air for a stage one, it's quiet, probably keeps the engine cleaner than the aftermarket ones and is a zero dollar mod.

It does keep the engine cleaner. I'm in the same boat as you. Kept mine stock!

So the Stage I still gives you the benefits with the stock filter? I could just put a K&N in there and be done with it

The stock Rushmore air filter flows better than previous models and provides adequate air volume up to a certain rpm and at full throttle. Most riders spend very little time in this rpm range which can vary from engine to engine. Guessing Probably 4600 rpm and up. Above that the stock Rushmore filter will start to choke the airflow a bit

Stole this off the web but it explains pretty well. Might have to work it a bit to read it as I snapped a picture of my computer screen with my phone

I, personally, didn't even want a K&N in there (though you can get one of those for like $50/$60). There are 2 different studies out there on the web how those let in more dirt. If I remember correctly, for the test they ran the stock AF filtered out 99.9x% while K&N was at 96%. This test was for a certain car, not our bikes though. And Bob the oil guy (if I remember correctly) did the same kind of tests and came to similar conclusions. That is why I stopped using oil type filters and stick with stock, especially for our bikes where the engine is still stock. Now if you are going to mod your engine with cams etc. then things would be different.

msquad-Blues & rv7garage- The optional HD SE kit includes a low restriction replacement air filter that does not use an oil solution like the K&N. It is reusable by simply washing with soap and water and giving it a good rinse. I cannot verify its airflow improvement over other filters but I'm satisfied with it plus it came with the replacement screaming eagle cover insert pictured in my previous post.

Thanks. I had thought about getting this before as I like the non-oiled option. But, my next monies will go to either ARC or J&M :).

Good Psalm Chapter BTW!

That's one of my favorites-Thanks.

I can vouch for the J&M as that's what I'm running(250w kit). Plenty of power and volume to suit me and my exhaust is very LOUD!
