Found that perfect sound!

Last seasoning I ran my 2014 Glide with new 2014 CVO takeoff mufflers. I like the looks and I like the relative quiet of these mufflers.
Over the years I've had mufflers that range from quiet to growly to high compression tight. So while I enjoyed the tranquil CVO cans I still longed for a bit of "BARK" under throttle. The kicker came this winter when my lady suggested the bike make a bit more Harley type racket. After listening to sound clips, reading way too many reviews on the web, and listening to used bikes at the dealerships that are in my area, I went with with Hulkss favorite combo; HD Screaming Eagle Street Cannons mufflers with stock head pipes and cat. Love the mellow almost stock CVO muffler sound at steady cruise. Love the "BARK" under heavy throttle much better than the Fullsac conversion.
Kicker is I really do not care for the black "SCREAMING EAGLE" script attached to the side of the muffs with three press in posts. Problem solved. The stock CVO muffler heat shields cover the script and fit the Street Cannons perfectly. I did have to slide the rear most band clamp between the SE script and the muffler body but there was just enough room.
I have the dealer ECM download and high flow air cleaner. Throttle response is great with no decel pop.
Now it looks like stock CVO cans but with a very nice exhaust note and my stock CVO cans are available in unmolested form should I decide to reuse them at some point.
For me it is a Very nice upgrade.

Did you ever run the CVO mufflers with a non cat head pipe?
I'm finding the stock CVO mufflers with Fuel Moto 2-1-2 head pipe to be my happy spot and some say getting rid of the cat gets rid of some heat too.
So, if you decide you want to get rid of the cat AND still keep the SE mufflers, the sound you like now will change.
These twin cam bikes don't have the "Harley" sound that used to be anyway, never will.

Glad you like it. I listen to the pipes instead of the radio.

My new high flow street Cannon exhaust sounds nearly identical.

I have only used the stock head pipe. As it is the bike flows enough air so the heat does not seem to be an issue even on very warm days in Minnesota which are few. I have vowed to keep this bike at Stage 1 as it performs to my expectations in stock form much better than my last rides in which I built up the engines.

Mike, I agree that the TC engine has its own sound separate from previous iterations of HD engines. I believe it is due in most part to the higher compression ratio which gives the exhaust note a tighter punch.

I agree about performance, I'm happy with stage 1. I didn't like the sound of my CVO mufflers till I changed the head pipe. Exhaust heat, for those that are sensitive to it, has a lot to do with the routing of the rear exhaust pipe not exiting to the left.... I think.
I'm used to the Twin Cam sound now but the injected Harley has it's own note for sure. When folks change mufflers to get a traditional sound now days, it is different than what I have in my head... cause I'm old.

Sound is always subjective. I too, love where I'm at performance wise with my STAGE 1, but some of the guys I ride with here in Palm Beach are Dr's & Lawyers, and have just gone out (in last few months) and put their collective butts on 110 L/C CVO's with a little more power than my 103 S/1. As a retired cop, I just can't justify a $40K m/c just to keep up when those hi speed runs pop up. So, I searched for another performance route that budget would work with. Going with custom headwork & cams. Did a lot of research before finding a set-up that will offer RELIABILITY & mo' power. I like to keep my SGS "looking & sounding" stock. My dyno tuner thinks I'll be able to give' 'em all a run for their money ("embarrass them" were his words). I have fullsac headers and Kuryakyn "Crusher Mufflers". They're slightly quieter than the CVO's with the 2" baffles I had on her (now hanging above my work bench). I tried the CRUSHERS "mellow" series, and they were almost OEM quiet... so nixed those. Kuryakyn CRUSHER series slip-on Mufflers are kind of expensive, but the finish and chrome plating is impeccable, and another feature I really like is that they're the only mufflers on the market that use Kuryakyn's exclusive patented woven Stainless Steel cloth packing. No fiberglass cloth at all. They sent me a sample of this unique packing material and I was sold. Tried to set it on fire with a torch, and it kind of glowed a little but after cooling down, kept it's original tightly woven consistency. Amazing stuff.

The sound I have now is as close to that traditional Harley sound as my dyno tuner could get. He lowered the idle just a smidgen, and with the "almost 255" cam set in these 103's he brought out a little of the potato, potato, potato sound (at idle) I was used to. It's actually more like rutabaga, rutabaga, rutabaga now. One extra syllable doesn't sound all that bad in my opinion.

I lean toward a stock looking bike also. I ride with retired cops, professionals, old school bikers, and just regular guys, many of whom I have known since school days. As you know all the money in the world can Buy a nice bike but doesn't make a person a biker. I used to have to be faster than the big cash guys but now I'm content to bury their minds with Bench Talk. Cam grinds, lift, duration, overlap, exhaust pulses, compression ratios, etc. plus when a bike breaks down on the road I'm one of the guys who pulls out my tool bag and wrenches on thier shiny CVO because the don't understand much about it. LOL
Anyway, they are all great guys and we are all out to have fun!
BTW. The weather has been nice for riding the last couple of days and I have gotten complements on my sound but with the CVO heat shields covering the SE script on the muffs no one can figure out what exhaust I have.

Blues,

Biker?
I'm really not so much interested in being a "biker" myself, and most of the guys I ride with also consider themselves "motorcyclists", as do I. These rich guys I was referring to have been riding for a long long time. Most of them are my high school buds from the 60's when we mostly all rode British bikes. Their parents could afford to send 'em to college, & mine could not. It was the military for me. They are ALL successful, but still ride. I had a pretty successful Law enforcement career (I'm STILL alive) but could not continue to be a cop in "HighCrime" Miami well into my late 60's like they have done as physicians and Senior partners in some major law firms. Thats the way the ball bounces... We're ALL EQUAL when we ride. It's just that they're a little more "equal" in their bank accounts. I say, "Good for them". They ALL absolutely appreciate my path to retirement. They're NOT posers & neither am I. We would never do that and get a kick out of those who are. I don't think any of us even own a black leather vest.
We RIDE because it keeps us young. We are all AMA members as well as H. O. G. members. But BIKERS?? Nah.
