Final candidates for 2017 Exhaust

So.....want a bit more rumble, a deeper tone than stock. Not excessively loud, mind you. Thinking about the following choices:

1) Jackpot slash up
2) V&H Twin Slash Cuts
3) Cobra 909
4) S&S Slash cuts.....not much to read about on those.

Not sure if I will replace the head pipe, but if I do, will probably use Fuel Moto's 2-1-2 head pipe. I will do AC and tuner, and down the road a stage II torque cam.

You see the V&H everywhere, not so much the others. Jackpots far and away the best price, but I'm not a huge fan of the slash up look. But I could live with it if these are the best.

BTW - Not trying to make any more power, but definitely not trying to lose any.

Have you considered modding your existing mufflers or do you want them stock for swapping back as required? I drilled the end plates out of mine with a 1" hole saw (extension needed too) and it made the bike a bit louder and still a deep tone. Cost about $30 from Lowes.

I have attempted modding stock exhaust with earlier bikes, and never had very good luck. I believe companies invest a lot of money into R&D to develop their products.....and while Harley may have been designing pipes for more than good sound/loudness, I'm quite sure they built them to perform as good as possible after meeting the other requirements, i.e., decibel levels. I personally feel to drill holes in them may very well kill performance.....and since I'm not an engineer, I choose not to play around with their efforts. PLUS....I don't think the stock pipes have a deep tone, so only making them a bit louder will not get me the sound I am looking for. I hear a tinny, raspy sound on top of a thump....but that is personal and subjective.....and I have a fairly severe hearing loss from 25+ years in the Army listening to things go boom.

Absolutely no disrespect to those that go this route......if it works, good for you. And honestly, if when I put on new head pipes the bike gets too loud, I may go to a modified stock pipe, and have to eat these words. Just looking for a bit louder and a deep rumble.......no longer looking to draw attention to myself, and at an age where I want to listen to tunes.

I get it. I really like the looks of the v&h twin slash and I got to hear some freedom performance mufflers (don't know the exact model, the guy riding it didn't know what was on his bike) which had a really deep boom whenever on the throttle. I went the drilling method because it's cheap and mimics street cannons or similar mufflers which are a pass-through design with packing along the walls.

I haven't gotten to see or hear any fuel moto products in person but if I'm not mistaken, you can re-core their pipes including adding restrictor plates (only on some cores?) to dial in loudness and back pressure. If they ever come to AZ bike week I'd love to get a better handle on their lineup.

PS I'm sure all our hearing loss is in different ranges. I don't hear any tinny noises in my pipes but I don't hear a lot of that regardless. I tend to dislike the raspy straight pipe sound and prefer a lower sound in pipes. My pipes still sound a bit raspy wide open and that's likely what will drive me to new mufflers.

Yeah, he (my brother) initially wanted the slash cuts to match the contour of the bags, but in the end, he decided to give these a try and now he loves them. I enjoy riding behind him whenever he cracks the throttle, because it sounds badass.

If I had it to do all over again I'd still get a pair of 909's.
I'm pretty happy with the performance gains and the sound.
This is a bit surprising cause I never cared for Cobra pipes much in the past.

Frank, I tend to agree. I think Cobra has come a long way. I like these pipes better (for sound) than I did my Twin Slash's.

Based upon the recommendations from Mojo and Frank, pulled the trigger on a set of Cobra 909s. Also got a Fuelpak FP3 as I'm familiar with them (had on the last two bikes).

Final candidates for 2017 Exhaust

For stage 1, I’m going with V&H Eliminator 400 slip ons, V&H FP3, and S&S Stealth filtration (Air 1 cover kit). I put this “performance package” (their term) together online at Fuel Moto. $1011 shipped to NC.

Not sure I’ll like the mufflers but the few sound clips I heard, I liked. I do prefer the look of 4” over 4.5”.

I put my pipes on and an Arlen Ness Big Sucker myself.
Later, when I took it to my local indie shop to have him tune it he asked what I paid for the pipes.
When I told him $319 shipped he just about crapped.
After tuning it he test rode it and said he was really impressed with them too.
He said "best $319 you probably ever spent"

Any issues with the Big Sucker intake? Do you get a lot of intake noise?

Oz , I love the Arlen ness big sucker kit under stock cover . I don’t notice any extra noise just more go and no stutter . Love it 15 minutes to install tuned with FP3 and V&H monster rounds. The heavy streetglide runs like a dragster very happy with this bike. Rolls hard and gets there quick

If I hadn't just put pipes on I might have noticed an increase in intake volume but nothing noticeable over the exhaust...
