If you only had 500 to spend on slip-ons for 2014 FLHX what would you get, and why? ALso, How much difference is there is 3.5 - 4" as far as sound and performance??

I have the V&H slash rounds and like them but this is more of a personal choice. I would suggest going somewhere you can listen to different pipes and combinations before you make the jump. Everybody is different in what they like and why, some prefer loud and obnoxious and others like loud when you get on it and quieter when cruising. There is several vendors on here that are sponsors and they give really good deals to the members so slow down and take your time and do some shopping.

I bought some Klock Werks Super Saver 4" Slip-On Mufflers from Jeff at www.coastalmoto.com. I think that they were $300. they sound good to me but sound is an individual preference.

I'm all about saving money.

All I did was cut the baffles and remove the fiberglass in the stock slip ons.

Sound is a personal preference, but I kinda like how it turned out for mine. Even better that it didn't cost me a single penny.

I'm sure it matters which your after, either sound or performance but I think I've drank the Fuelmoto koolaid, reading all the dyno charts posted with the different configurations has me sold, if I decide to change mufflers I think I want the 4" jackpot up slash mufflers.

The Vance & Hines Slash Cuts are good for me. I like the sound and they are not obnoxiously loud. The neighbors still like me, kinda!

Solex,
Check out the Fuel Moto air intake. One quality unit and it flows good and it is quiet. Eliminates the intake sucking noise of the open filter jobs. Also when reading a dyno chart be sure to pay attention to the rpm range in which you ride and not the peak numbers. The Jackpot cans are nice.
I run the Fuel Moto air intake with a stage one HD flash and 2014 CVO muffs with stock cores and modified with fullsac insulation screens. The CVO's flow well to 100hp and can be had on evil bay for around $200. They look nice but are maybe more quiet than you would like. My old ears appreciate them.

You know anything about the Rush Big Louie's? I have heard a few people online say they sound good. I know sound is a personal preference, but we all generally look for the same thing. Loud and not tinny..Deep growl, etc.

True, its all about personal preference. I've found over the years several things can affect the sound besides slip ons. A/F ratio changes alone change the tone.

Yes, I am sure the total system configuration changes things, but right now I'm running stock except for de-cat. Figured slip-ons or pipes first would make the most noticeable difference in sound.

Solex, Do you have any experience with the Jackpots? Wondering if you had heard any in person and could testify as to the sound.

For what it's worth I had the Jackpots on my 2008. Really like the performance and sound. Nice mellow rumble with some bark when you hot on it. Quality made, good welds, good material and good chrome. Highly recommend FuelMoto

I think I am going to break down and order the V&H ProPipe 2-1. I have been looking at it for a long time and going back on forth on whether I will like not having the "dual" look. I have a friend that has one on a 2011 Road King Police..I like the deep growl that it has..and 2-1 is best for performance I have heard..Should I really be that concerned with the look of the left side under the bag?? I don't know..it makes me a little apprehensive for some reason..although I don't want to be worried about something so menial, I kind of am...I will probably just pull the trigger and live with it. It will give me a reason to get stretched bags later on to cover that gap..Lol..

Same here. I put FullSac 1.75" cores in 'em to go with a DX Head pipe. fullsac.com

I just switched out the Klockwerks to try the CVO with 2" cores. I like the original CVO muffler look with the black tips. Got 1.75" and 2" cores and am trying the 2" first.

Back to the OPs question - Listen to some bikes decided what you want and find some takeoffs to save some money. You can find most any kind you want for under $500. Since folks change pretty frequently, gently used slipons are readily available. Sound is a very personal preference. Go with what you like.

"Go with what you like" as I stated earlier in this thread I'm running CVO take offs with Fullsac screens but what I really, really like is the sound of a Shovel Head with a B grind cam and straight pipes! Aaaaahhh. The good old days!
