Well, with the help of Spazz and Jonp, the install is complete on my '15 Ultra Ltd. I had my Army Reserve Unit Reunion last night so I'm just getting around to this this morning.
The install was not as smooth as I would have liked. Several things popped up:
1- With the WO 12.5", the factory control harnesses ended up right the opening in the bottom of the bars. They did not stick out far enough the get the extensions on. So I pulled them out and tried to plug the extensions on first and found that I could not get them through the bars. Again, pulled them back out and decided to cut and solder the extensions on. Did the same with the heated grip wires also.
2- The urethane riser bushing kit from Harley had the bolts included. Of course the bolts were not long enough. Had to run to the hardware store for bolts that were 5/16" longer. For $50, you'd think they could get that right.
3-The urethane bushings were taller and I had contact issues with the inner fairing and the accessory switch panel. I dremeled the bar opening in the inner fairing bigger and had to dremel off some on the switch panel. The fairing would not sit down enough to get the side double end bolts in and the switch panel would not sit in position either to get the screws in.
4- With the WO Chubby bars you need to test fit the TGS. This is the second set I have had to file the opening in order for it to slide in position.
5- With the OEM HD heated grips the left side of the bar needs to have about 3/8" cut off because of the heat controller being at the end of the grip.
6- Clutch hose routing was a little challenging. There really is only one way to do this that I can see. Cut all the zip ties, unsnap it from the plastic keeper on the neck and let it hang free and bring it over the top off the trees. The brake hose has plenty of slack. You need to make sure you tie up any and all wiring out of the way so there is no pinching when turning to full lock. Spazz and Jonp answered several questions and posted pics for help. Thanks, Men!
7- The banjo bolts for the brake and clutch reservoirs need to be turned inward for better routing and clearance. You can loosen these bolts ever so gently and turn them a little without loosing fluid or introducing air into the system. Go slow and easy.
The test ride yesterday went fine. No issues that I could find. I did have one thing weird happen as I began my test ride. I left the driveway and got to the stop sign about 30 yards away and had a message come up in the speedo display. "No Fob". Wtf? The fob was in the windshield pouch. The message went away and did not see it again. I installed the siren from SG to this bike. So after I got home from the test ride I removed the fob from the bike and messed with the bike to set off the security system. It went off and I grabbed the fob walked over to the bike and the siren and lights stopped and all was well. Not sure what that was all about.
Anyway, thanks for the help and hopefully this will help the next fella that's ready to dig in.
This took me about a day from sun up to sun down. I always make sure I allow a lot of time and will not be in a hurry. I have learned that something always comes up. I did also install some accessory harnesses and switches so that took some time, but is included in the total here.
