Hello all, I am new here and have searched endlessly for my answer so thus my post. I recently have purchased an 09 with a dealer installed 103 big bore kit, 251 cams, 10.5:1 compression, pro pipe with unknown baffle, and the heads were ported by a local shop. I love the bike but I don't care for the exhaust too much noise not enough definition. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a new exhaust and tune and such. What i am asking is, would it cause too much trouble to install the quiet baffle? Thanks for any help.

They make 3 different baffles for the Pro Pipe, you could buy the quiet one and it should make a big difference.

Depends on which baffle you have. ... I have the standard and comp baffles... there is a difference in sound for sure..

One way to tell which you have...

Standard on the left... comp on the right...

The comp baffle is a straight thru design... a broom handle will slide all the way up to the header and then some....

The standard has a diverter plate about 6-8 back and the broom handle will not go.past

V&H Pro Pipe with standard baffle will do the job, I am sure you have the comp baffle which is extremely loud. After I swap out my exhaust to Pro Pipe I am very much happy with it.....it only roar when you get on it, in cruising mode it's quiet. The bottom line is your bike has been tuned with Pro Pipe therefore changing to another exhaust will change things around and spend more money to get it re-tuned, just swap out with quiet baffle and you should be good.

Just a little comparison I did on the baffles... BTW... I loved the sound of the comp baffle, but without motor work, it was too much for the 103 and lost bottom end... I went back to standard....

Baffle is easy to swap with just two bolts on trim ring... you may need to 'hook' the inside of the baffle with a tool to help dislodge it. Then move the packing away from the trim ring and remove 3 small allen bolts that hold baffle to trim ring and install new baffle and slide it all in aligning the bolt holes on the trim ring to the pipe... done.

Thanks everyone for your fast replies. I will pull the baffle and see what I have.
No need to pull it.. just use a 3' stick... if it stops at about 8" in... you have a standard... all the way in... you have a comp

Ok so about 6 inches into the pipe there is a plate with 2 holes. I am assuming I have the standard baffle. Maybe the packing has broken down.

Nope..if it's not straight thru... standard baffle... someone may have drilled holes in it look at pics above of standard... shine a flashlight down yours... compare

I don't see any pictures. This is what mine looks like except mine has two holes in the back plate. 393312d1407373616-2010-flhx-vance-and-hines-2-into-1-pro-pipe-chrome-baffle-img_20140806_185954_.jpg

That's the standard baffle... somebody drilled it...

I was told that whenever a shop has to do Dyno where they have to insert exhaust probe they have to drill out standard baffle....so looks like that's what it was done on your baffle or someone just drilled it out for louder sound....

Thanks again. I will have to pull it to see if the packing is gone. I am concerned with going to the quiet baffle because of the rumored loss of hp/tq

Quiet baffle will increase back pressure.... Maybe gain a bit of torque

Ok so baffling update. The metal plate at the end I have discovered it is bent leaving a 1 inch opening. Also the muffler portion of the exhaust is rusted to hell. I can't even get the screws out to remove the baffle. So now I am left with the question replace the muffler if possible or get a new system.

If you are willing to work on it.... you can save it.

The allens holding the end cap are 1/4x20 bolts... drill the heads flush and remove the baffle and end cap... then you can drill/tap the bolts.

Be liberal with WD-40 rust penetrant on the end cap and bolts.

BTW... I Cleaned out my msgs....lol
