New ac or breather assy wanted

OK I'm fed up with the amount of oil that is getting into my air cleaner and intake assembly. I am cleaning my air filter now (K&n oem fit filter, in the sun drying) and the entire air cleaner assembly is just covered in oil, with oil literally dripping from my intake butterfly valve.

Rant over, question starts.

For those who have been affected by the oily intake problem, what air cleaner or breather rerouting kit do you use with success? Or for that matter with no success? I'm running the stock ac housing with a K&n oem style air filter. My filter and everything under the cover are covered in oil. The only plus side to this is all the small rocks the Rushmore intake allows in are nicely adhered inside my air cleaner housing. If a breather alone will suffice I would prefer that option as I rather like the Rushmore intake (despite being a rock gobbling monster) but if I can be convinced to change air cleaners, or if that's the best option for eliminating this breather problem, I'll change it.

After getting getting familiar with breathers during a recent engine build, I would recommend putting new breather assemblies in the heads. P/N 17025-03A gets you all the pieces in a kit. You need two of them and a couple valve cover gaskets.

I know exactly what you're saying AZ. This has been a complaint I've had ever since I've owned my '15 SGS, both with the stock 103 and with my 107. The only way I see to get around this is to vent it to a catch tank with a breather filter attached. I may get with my buddy this winter and try and come up with an aesthetically pleasing solution for this because I too am sick and tired of having to clean the filter every 1K miles or so, after it starts to drip oil.

This problem may be related to similar issues that I have read about with the 88 " vtwin,at that time I remember reading about checking the drain holes in the rocker boxes and opening them up slightly to help in draining. S&S cycle also had a reed valve kit that replaced the valves in the rocker boxes. While I didn't open the drains holes in the rocker box area I did have the reed valve kit installed. I never experienced the drastic amount of oil that you have described. I would personally like to find the reason for so much oil, but doing so comes at a cost as we all know. If I was planning head work or anything that required extensive disassembly I would spend some time looking for a solution IMHO.

I have the same bike as OP with K&N filter in stock air can. I just practice filling engine oil to just below full, no oiling problems. Wonder why some bikes blow oil?

I have reread passages from Donny Petersen's "Unauthorized Technical Guide Volumes 1&2" in which he discusses oil blow by. OldMike pointed out that oil level should be checked making sure that it's not overfilled. The Reed Valve kit that S&S cycle sold a few years back that fits behind the oil pump. What I quoted earlier was a mistake as it does not replace the breather valves in the rocker box. A clogged oil return may be the cause, missing or misaligned o-rings even incorrect o-rings. On one occasion they found the oil pump surface that mates against the cam support plate was not machined correctly. While these pertain to VTwins I'm not sure that they lend themselves to the Rushmore era.

AZ, I loved the look of the stock air cleaner cover, but didn't want the restriction. With about 4K miles on my 14 SGS I installed the Arlen Ness big sucker which allowed me have an unrestricted air cleaner and still run the stock cover. I had a small oil issue when it was stock, but once I changed to the Ness, I never ever had it again. I ran that set up for about two years and never had an issue, I just pulled that off and installed a screaming eagle ventalator and the Ness Cleaner is just sitting on the work bench. If your interested in it, I'll give you a heck of a deal on it.

Ride safe Man!! :cool::cool:

Thanks for all the replies. I'd been looking at dk custom intakes as well but still not sure what route I'll take. I like all the options.
