I would like your opinion on which filter you recommend.
Only criteria is that I want to use my standard air cover that came with the bike.
I can only find the S&S "stealth" that allows me.

Any other ideas?

Thunder Max makes a air intake system that works with the original cover. I like having the original as I do not like to advertise to everyone I have upgraded my bike

The V&H Naked O2 allows you to reuse your stock cover. I have that setup, but went with the skull cap for the filter.

Www.fuelmotousa.com has the best intake for stock cover hands down. Several SGF members use this unit.
The stock filter is just fine also. Using a high flow unit You might pick up a bit of performance above 4500 rpm or so until the cam reaches its limit. The main benefit over stock of the Fuel Moto unit is its smooth backing plate providing a nice slippery unobstructed airflow path. When you bust the throttle open the air just slides right in.

Was waiting for the answer to this also.

DK customs sells a kit to reroute but I had stuff around the garage. There are many ways to do it and I've seen people reroute to under the bike, back the rear wheel, just hanging down on the right front. For my last bike I had for 8 years had it rerouted out the bottom of the bike with no filter. 8 years and no issues.
See this for my project: http://streetglide.com/showthread.php?2517-My-14-SG-Crankcase-Breather-Re-Route-with-Stock-AC

Also, the oil based filters let in more dirt so I don't use them. There are a couple of studies you can find online about this - I remember one is from Bob the oil guy.

Just replace the filter element with a K&N filter. It does not make the stock cover stick out any further, does not make more intake noise than stock and it does not cost a lot for air flow you will never use anyway on a stage 1.

Thanks for this tip Mike.\
I got the K&N filter and I feel a difference and not much money either; I rarely take my engine to the limit so no need for that extra airflow.

I used the Harley SE hi flow air filter on my Rushmore SG and it is substantially bigger than the stock unit which itself was much better than the previous units.

The SE units come with a new mounting bracket which replaces the breather with an internal design built into the new bracket. After you replace the bracket the new filter gets installed and the factory air cover goes back on (less the plastic back shroud). The Kit comes with a replacement plate that says Screamin' Eagle which replaces the factory "103" plate....the plates are both held on with a velcro strip and you have to remove this to take the factory cover off anyhow.

Hope this helps explain the breather tube issue....................BTW I found the SE unit to be very well made and at ~$110 discounted online it was a well engineered solution for me trying to keep the factory look.

paul65k- I did the same. I especially like the OEM HD filter element that is washable and reusable without having to use the red K&N oil!
