Best 4.5" slip ons?

I own a 17SG from just a couple of weeks and I am really happy with it, but I'm also thinking about which could be the best options for a stage 1.

As I'm getting older, I thought that M8 stock pipes sound will be enough for me (and I also want to listen to my radio!). But man, I miss so much the sound of my last bike (twin cam fatboy with V&H 2-1 pro pipe).

So, what do you think of V&H 4.5" slip ons? Are they too loud? I am looking for a deep rumble, but don't want to be shot by my neighboors during siesta hours...

Any other suggestions for slip ons?

I have these on my 2015 and they are not super loud just deep....that way my wife can hear me coming home and open the garage for me...

Thanks Scharrin. That is exactly what I was looking for.

By the way, any issues regarding cornering clearance over the stock ones?

I've always found the V&H to have a sharpness to them. I love the deepness of my CFRs. Of course they are paired with V&H Dresser Duals.

Just my two cents.

Thanks Yegg. I'm just doing some research about CFR, but I'm afraid that they don't have any dealers here in Europe. Any case, if they have an even deeper sound than oversized 4.50" V&H, I will try to find them.

I have the v&h destroyer 450s on my 17 sgs. Sounds great. Deeper idle than stock obviously. And a great tone when you open her up. Just not near as loud as I wish. Power duals soon to come.

I went with the V&H 450 O.S. Raiders and wasn't loud enough. Added the power duals and still not much imporovement. Made a trade with a guy for some 4" Reinharts and bingo the sound I was looking for. For some reason the baffles on them 450's just don't let the bark out even when on the throttle. Don't get me wrong, they sound good just not the note I wanted.

Thanks Chapo and Spike.

Anyway, I´ve seen that most of you are pairing the 4.50 slip-ons with different headers than the stock ones (V&H, D&D...).

Are there any issues on keeping OEM headers with the oversized mufflers? Are they so bad????

I´m not specifically after HP or torque increasing. Having owned an EVO and a Twin Cam 96B in the past, now I am really happy about how a Milwaukee 8 performs. Basically I´m looking for the deepest sound possible. Keeping OEM headers will affect the sound of V&H 4.5" mufflers????

I'm running Rhinehart's (with V&H Dresser Duals) and they are very nice ......

Stock head pipe wouldn't be a bad route to go if you get it de-catted. Remember no matter what you do as long as the cat is in the stock pipe your limited to what you get. For both sound and performance. Runs a heck of a lot hotter with cat in as well.

If you decat the head pipe won't it cause Harley to void the warranty? (For m8's at least)

Thanks guys for the info. I'm afraid that I should change the headers too.

In my last bike (2009 Fatboy twin cam 96B) the cat was in the mufflers, not in the headers. Anyway I changed the whole exhaust system for a V&H 2-1 pro pipe from day one. And my previous Harley was carburated, so I had no idea about the need of changing headers.

In Spain is mandatory to pass an inspection of your bike, including CO2 emissions, every 2 years (starting 4 years after the registration date for new bikes), so I got plenty of time to try out some improvements before. But any modification shall be agreed with my H-D dealer.

This means that I should have to buy the mufflers, air intake, recalibration, headers, etc. from them (but not necessarily H-D Screamin Eagle parts for the exhaust, normally they can offer exhausts included in major catalogues like Custom Chrome, Drag Specialties, etc.) and they had to do the installation also. Any other way I will loose my 2 years H-D warranty.

It's a little bit ridiculous, but that's the way things are here in Spain. I think this is quite the same for the rest of Europe.

So, any advise on headers if I decide to install the V&H 4.50 destroyer mufflers? True duals??

I use TAB BAM STICKS with Zombie baffles she purrs real good on my Mistress sgs17
