Batwing mounted mirrors - opinions please

I am considering, after putting my 10" bars on and finding the fairing mounted mirrors useless, purchasing and installing the Windshield Trim Mirrors sold by HD (p/n 57400254) and was looking for opinions of how the installation goes, the usefulness of this type of mirror mount, and what mirror to go with? Does the mirror and this mount blend in with the fairing? I really don't want handlebar mounted mirrors. I am trying to keep a clean look. Thanks!

I'm not sure they are any cleaner looking than a nice set of HB mounted mirrors. I was on the fence. Almost went with the batwing mount, but then decided on Yaffe mirrors. I thought the batwing mounted mirrors would ruin the clean look of the fairing. If I had 10" bars I'd be tempted to try the stock mirrors. You should be able to see under the bars a little. My 8" bars are dead center of the stock mirrors. No choice but to do something else.

Just make sure brake reservoirs will clear the mirror and not in the way with 10" bars.....and if they are then that'll be the way to go.

My 10" bars are directly in the middle of the fairing mirror and the bars are as far forward as they can go.

I had to add mirrors when I went with 10" bars, you can't see underneath well enough to be safe

What mirror setup did you go with? I really didn't want something much higher than the short windshield I have for my bike.

I went with basically stock HD mirrors, bought chrome, decided I wanted black I have a near new set cheap $30 for the pair, on a week

I just got through replacing the stock mirrors with bar mounted, plugged the whole and replaced the levers.
I've been on the fence too, but like the new look.

I made a decision today. I will not spend $300 on the batwing fairing mounted mirrors. I have read elsewhere the wind puts a lot of pressure on that little top strip and the 3 connecting bolts. I will go to my local dealership today and spend at the most $100 and mount them tonight. I just think it's ludicrous that the fairing mounts are $149 and don't come with mirrors:mad:! The mirrors are another $149! I like the look but what damage might they cause, besides to my wallet?

I got the faring mount mirrors to try.
1) They fit really easy
2) They have a limited field of vision especially when a vehicle comes up by your side - you cant see them.
3) They caused a lot of extra wind noise faster than 90Km/H.
4) They can look a bit clumsy at first but you get used to that.
5) THEY ARE DAMM EXPENSIVE!!!

So after a weekend with them they went back to the dealership.

I bought a set of mirrors that are for a Sportster 48 last night, mounted them, and had a great ride to work this morning. They will do the job for under $80.

I purchased the HD contrast cut black dome mirrors and I like them

I have this set I would sell, was on the bike a week till my black pair came in $30 + shipping

I installed the Yaffe mirrors and they look wicked, but are so small I question thier usefulness. I haven't tried them on the road yet, so we'll see.
