I’m finally tired of my factory speakers. I’ve got a 2014 SG standard. Me and the wife are heading to arkansas this weekend and I thought I’d grab a set of the boom audio stage 1 6.5 speakers for the fairing. I wanted something quick I could throw in with no mods needed. So I went to the speakership. I asked for the speakers, was told they didn’t have any along with “they won’t be any louder, you need to purchase the amp kit if you want it louder”. I asked if they had the kit. He said no, they would take three days to get and three days to install. He said I couldn’t do it myself without hooking up to the bike with their software. I of course said well it looks like aftermarket. He said that would be an extra thousand dollars to hook an aftermarket amp up to the bike due to what I would need to make it work. I’m not stupid so I know the majority of what he said was BS. Are the boom speakers a waste of money? $199.99. All I fricken want is to hear my music at highway speed. Right now I’m not trying to drown out the Honda Civic at the stop light next to me. Do I need to have the flash done if I install an amp? I’ve built complete car audio systems many times so I understand but never messed with my bikes audio. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks

Your dealership is correct on what they said about upgrading just speakers will not make your sound system play louder. You will not hear your music well on the highway unless you are on a stretched highway with no cars on it, and your bike doesn't have aftermarket exhaust. Even then you have to turn it up all the way and may not hear it well. So power amp is a must along with speaker upgrade. There are few posts on sound system upgrades on SG.com that you may want to read up on before deciding on upgrading your system. SPAZZ is the guy you might want to reach out to on sound system. He can direct you with what you need and sound system upgrade is not cheap so be prepare.

Good luck and ride safe!
