Here in South Africa we have the European version of the SGS.

The rear lights are on a chrome bar and not very bright, although they look like LEDs

I want to swap the innards out for a custom Dynamics bright set.

Anyone know how to get the lenses and lights out?

I can help. The lenses have a slot right on the edge where it meets the chrome housing. Put a small flat blade screw driver in there and slowly twist it and they pop out.
PLEASE NOTE: You will also need to purchase new lenses from Custom Dynamics as the LED lighting plate needs additional /deeper clearance.

Is that just for certain models? I have CD LED turn signals and use my oem lens, though I did purchase the smoked lens for the rear but they look identical as the lens CD sells.

I bought my CD's in late 2013 and you needed the deeper lense covers then. I haven't checked but they may be making the LED/pans shallower now so you can use the stock covers.
Anyone chime in here.

I bought my CD's in September 2015. At the same time I got the smoked lense covers. They are the same size as the stock lense covers I took off.

Maybe the next batch they make won't need lens covers....heheheh...who knew?

When I bought mine in 2014 the lens covers came with the LED replacement lights you just had to pick the color you wanted. Smoked is very popular

I could be wrong but I don't think you can replace the lights in the International versions.

I wanted to do exactly that and spoke to Custom Dynamics. They confirmed what HD said, the lights are sealed units in the International bikes and cannot be opened.

Maybe different in the US but that came direct from Custom Dynamics....

In the end I replaced the whole rear fender for the CVO version with integrated brake/turn signals.

Thanks everyone so far.
MOJO, unlike the fronts, there is no a slot in these rear lights so I fear that plasmadaddy may be right and he will have the same setup as me.
just wonder how you replace these lights if they fail.
A poor idea in my mind.

Same here Tom !

Aviator-My front and back lense sets all have the slot to pry them off the housings, same as stock lenses.

Don't forget that the HDI versions have dual colored LEDs unlike the single color US versions, that's why we can't open ours to make changes!

Spot on there plasmadaddy.
I think the only way to improve my visibility would be to add the CD plasma rods, they look very bright on the video and fairly simple to install.

They are easy to install. They come with "Easytaps", I wired my turn/brake only right into the tail light wiring atop the reaf fender wire loom that runs along the left side rail of rear fender. They are very bright!

I did this... After reading this post I found my rear bullets do have the slot to pop off the lens.. Smoked lens and possibly red LEDs will complete the look..

Rhsra- There is also an upgraded Run/Brake Tri-light available from both HD and Custom Dynamics.
