Guys can you tell me if the 2014 SGS has cats in the head pipe. I put a set of Super Trapp Stouts on it and I was told the cats were in the stock mufflers. Just trying to confirm.

The cat is not in the mufflers it is just in from of the muffler on the right I believe I removed stock pipes before I left the dealer. But I know they are not in the muffler it is before them

The cat is in the header pipe just before the muffler on the right side... here is a pic of a de-cat being done...

Just drilled my cat out a couple of days ago. What a PIA job that was. I shoulda coulda woulda done what you did. But I love the sound of my bike now. It was all worth it.

So, when you De-CAT the pipe on a 2014 SG there is nothing that screws up? Such as o2 sensors or anything computer related on the bike? You just scoop that crap out, weld back together, install and all is well with the world?

Just pulled the cat out of mine. Much better sound, less heat. I did also buy a PV and got a map downloaded to keep the fuel mixture from being too lean. The header from mine was overly blued, browned and a few other colors after only 250 miles. Now it sounds like a Harley.

I think I may need to go that route also. Mine was not blued at all, and I have about 1400 miles on it..maybe 500 since removing cat..but, I do get some popping/backfire on occasion. Also seems to have a hesitation in acceleration at lower RPMs..I feel that may all be improved with fuel management changes. Was trying to wait and do slip-ons, A/C, and Fuel management at the same time...but, that may not be possible if I want it to run correctly.

Take it from Wildchild - that is a good deal on a pre done catless head pipe. Its a royal PIA to do it yourself unless you have the right equipment. You will have more power and less heat and you'll be a bit louder too!

Yep Mojo $140 is a great deal cause the SS mig welding needs to be done right without leaks.

I know this is an old thread and you probably figured it out by now but the 14 SGS's come from the factory with catalytic converters. If you want to be sure, remove the right side muffler and shine a flashlight in the header. You will see the cat if someone didn't remove it.

yes figured it out and I have removed it. Much less heat and with the tune it runs much better.

I know this is a old thread but when you say right tools I assume you mean the welder to seal everything back up correct? What other tools are needed to remove the cats? How hard is this mod to do, by how hard I mean removing the cats themselves, the welding part I will have to leave to the professionals and take it to say a exhaust/muffler shop to have the welding done?

On a scale 1-10 I would say a 7-8. Removing the header pipes and re-installing is just bolts and a little tricky getting them lined up to get back on. You will need a grinder with a cut-off disc to make the opening to remove the cat. Not really that hard to do if you have used one before. Removing the cat I used a paint scraper and a stainless steel wire brush that you can put on a drill to finish cleaning the inside. Blow out with compressed air and take them to a muffler shop to be mig welded with stainless steel then re-install. Making sure there are no leaks after welding. You can also clean up the welds before re-installing with the wire brush but this is not needed.

Need to add use the thinnest cut off you can 1/16" so it's a smaller gap to weld. Use duck tape to hold the cut door in position while you tack it in place for welding then remove the duck tape.

Good Luck

Thanks wildchild the cutting open and cleaning out want be a problem I have all those tools, and with the over abundance of SGS OEM exhausts flooding craigslist in my area I beleive it would be much easier and minimize down time to just pick one up for $50 there and do the De-Cat on those have it all welded back up and install those then re-list mine back on craiglist to recover the $50. Walah!! If only stuff like this were this easy LOL.

Decatting is easy...I used a spade bit, or two (1/2" and 1"), an 18" extension for the bit, went to Home Depot and bought a 24" pry bar, one I could hammer on, then I pulled the header off, drilled and pried till it was all out. Took about 3 hours total time. It was worth it. The hardest part was getting the right side muffler off. And no cutting, no welding...on a scale of 1-10, this would be about a 4....maybe a 5 if you messed up the header seals....but thats hard to do.
