Been riding Berny ever since I picked her up earlier this week. I noticed that the service department cleaned out the mufflers of all the burnt oil residue at the ends. There seems to be some rust at the tips and without a doubt the baffles. I'm not sure of the process of cleaning the mufflers out but it does not look right to me. Once the break in period is over, 500 miles, I think I should just break down and replace the whole system for fear of damage to the internal workings if the pipes themselves. Or should I have Harley replace the whole system? Everything else is working fine.

Perry- I noticed when I removed mine at 900 miles they were rusty inside as well. Just superficial but still rust. Had I kept them on the bike I would have painted the insides with Hi Temp BBQ black paint. Instead I added the new exhaust system described below.

So that looks normal to you? And should I stop acting like an old woman?

Normal or not mine looked the same. I was going to paint mine for aesthetics had I kept them on.

The rust inside is purely cosmetic. Spray flat black BBQ paint inside the tips like Moe says.

My 4" H-D Street Cannon Piston Style Exhaust Tips came with a flat black finish inside.

Couldn't he also use one of the wire "round" brushes you attach to your drill and hit each one with it if he prefers to have the clean silver look ?

hulkss
Did you keep your stock header with your street cannons and if so does it still have the cat ?
Did you have a tune done after changing over to the SC's ?

I am running the catted stock head pipe with Street Cannons. I changed to a high flow air cleaner and I am using a Factory download tune that runs great.

The Dealer I got my SGS from installed the Street Cannons on my bike at no cost to me to sweeten the deal They are not as loud as I would have liked but sound good I"m not sure if the dealership ever changed my tune but the bike seams to run fine.
Is the performance tune you are running something I would get at the dealership ? The sale's guy told me a tune was not needed with slip-on's Did you notice a performance increase with the tune and air cleaner swap thinking about doing the Screamin Eagle stage 1 air cleaner kit and it say's you need a ECM calibration for this kit ?

Yes the Stage 1 performance tuning is from the dealership. Add the Stage 1 air cleaner and the ECM calibration. The Stage 1 tuning is a computer file that calibrates the ECM. You should be able to notice the difference in improved engine performance.

I took my new SGS out last night for a rip for the first time - I cannot believe the heat those stocker headers throw compared to my V&H Headers from my 2010 SG.

Anyone else notice the extreme heat with the stocker set up compared to aftermarket headers?

I've never noticed any heat from the exhaust or the engine. It's probably because I spend almost no time on the bike at low speed and I'm wearing boots and an Aerostich riding suit.
