Harley Recall Bag fasteners

Have fasteners been re-designed ? My SG is about 6 weeks old and taking in for first service next week. I have had the bags off a few times for slip-on installation and cleaning. I have noticed that the retaining clips are already starting to wiggle themselves loose.

I changed mine via this thread (first thing I bought), works great ! Not sure what Harley is replacing with.

So one of my bags fell of last year and the I got the recall to replace the fasteners. My dealer said he would collect names of people that had a bag fall off and see if Harley would reimburse the cost of replacement bag. I haven't heard back from dealer but was wondering if anyone tried to get reimbursed after loosing a bag.

I would go back to your dealer and have a chat today or tomorrow. Harley has replaced a lot of bags and that's the reason for the recall is faulty spring clips. There was even a recall after the recall for the spring clips. I would have that chat then if they still don't want to help call Harley and explain what's going on. Make sure you post the dealership so we can all stay away from there.

Its sad that no one is able to come up with a better idea than the twist knobs, sure its reliable and simple, but its 2016 we shouldnt have to be engineering a better solution to solve their problem.
Mine is a 2016, wonder if they will include them soon enough lol I already ordered the twist knob setup, but i plan on only using 1 in each bag.

For the MSRP of 23K i shouldnt have to install a $10 - $20 setup to save a $1k bag. It F****** pisses me off.

Preach bro. I don't know what Harley thinks sometimes, all this technology out here and sometimes they choose to live in the dark ages

That's what insurance is for.

I totally agree with 16FLHXS.....some of the crap I am finding out how HD did not think of or did it on purpose really pisses me off too......like the Bluetooth option. If they feel that Bluetooth is not going to be a part of the Rushmore project then at least add the same option as CVO for corded headset with all Rushmore touring bikes.....WTF!!!

I bought my bike in April 2015, by June, I was notified of the recall. Then I got the notice of a recall for the recall. Then I just bought a pair of BaggerBolts. I got em for $50. The owner of the company did a little demonstration to show how a easy twist of a screwdriver would pop the mounting pins super easily. No chance I'm letting that happen. $50 is a way better investment than my $750 deductible should anything happen. My 2 cents

I stop by my local dealer today, because the selling dealer forgot to program the FOBs for me before i left.

The tech i was chatting with said my 16 has a different design on the bolt, to lock it better. He didnt go into specifics, but he pulled one of mine out and verified they were the new ones. (still gonna secure them better lol)

Wondering if he looked at the peg or the spring clips the peg goes into???? The spring clip was the issue with bad metal not keeping it's springiness. What I'm thinking is you got stooped because you can't tell the difference looking at the spring clip from where he did unless he took it out.

Just my 2 cents

Good to know, he claimed it was the pin.

I got my Reda fasteners today, pulled the front ones and replaced with the reda. I left the back ones stock. (1 screw knob & Stock spring clip and pin in each bag)

Actually, those are what airplanes have been using for years for quick access panels and they've worked out great. I suspect the quality of HD's fasteners weren't as heavy duty nor certified like aircraft parts are. The idea is great, just stop using cheap Chinese materials and labor.

One thing I am thinking about designing is a system that lets me know I didn't close my lid tight. I get tired of people honking at me, trying to let my know crap was flying out of my open bags....

Sounds like you are in need of a departure checklist. LOL

I bought the "Lowes" kit and love it. I got the recall and had to install the original system back to take it in so they would do the upgrade. Then they told me that mine was new enough that the parts were not in the recall. I put my kit back in and haven't looked back. Yes it takes a little longer but how often do you really take your bags off?

Just my .02

When my bike was in for factory alarm install I asked service manager about the recall and they said my bike is not on the list and I don't have any issues with them.....I remove my bags to park my bike in my garage (bike barely fit without the bags) so my situation is unlike most of you.....still locks in place and no issue whatsoever, I may upgrade with screw in type in the future to be safe for long rides.
