Any one install HD heated grips?

Farmboy, on mine the two connecotors I needed where under the fairing. The one on the left side connector had a dummy plug that you need to remove. The right side connector is kinda hidden and shorter. I took the two pluges off the heated grip, ran weed wacker string throw the left side bar and tapped two wires to the string and pulled then throw then reinstalled the connectors.

Thanks for getting back to me. I just started my bar swap today and I'll look for those connectors.

Farmboy, I want to install these when I put my new bars on my 2015. 12" PYMB's. Do you think I need extensions for these to connect in the fairing? Also, you're saying there are connections for each grip in the fairing? A left and a right? I dont have to connect them to each other first? Thx.

As for extensions your gonna need them for the controls not the heated grips. Get the namzz 8 inch for about $30. That's what a lot of guys on here recommended to me and they will work like a charm.
As for the grips I'm half way into the install and yes it looks like they can connect grip to grip in the faring. You'll have to change one of the connections on the TGS harness from female to male. It's provided in the new grips. As far as pulling power I don't think you'll need the accessories harness hd recommends. Looks like the power supply is in the fairing. The jury's still out on that until I get home and start working on it again. A previous post said he didn't need it.
Good luck!

djc_1982,
The connector on the left side. Is that where you drew your power from. The only connector on the left side of mine has only 2 wires. 1 black with white stripe and 1 white with purple or violet stripe. Also the connector that came with the grips looks to be a different shape with only a red wire. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd be happy to help any way I can. What I know now is all HD heated grips for the newer 14 and up SG's are not the same. The wiring for power and whether you will need the accessory adapter harness depends on the grips you get. Just talked to djc-1982 and he bought the standard black HD heated grips. His came with a connector installed on the power lead. That enabled him to plug into a connector in the fairing and get his power from there. I bought the HD heated contour rubber and my power harness needs the adaptor acces harness.
The biggest issue is his power leads come out of the end of the grip along with the interconnector wires which makes it easy to run the wires inside the bars. My power lead comes out of the grip on the outside at the groove where the control covers set in. You have to notch the edge of the grip to run the wire through the controls and down the outside of the bars. You can't run them back into the bars under the clutch control because there is also an in line fuse on the power lead. I suppose that could be removed, run the wires inside and then reinstall. The grips that cost a little more that I thought might be more comfortable have cost me a lot more trouble getting installed. Still having problem getting the left control housing back on and snugged up. I suspect its the lead running though the housing that's causing the problem but I cant see where its interfering and I removed some material on the housing bushing that sets in the groove of the grip where the lead comes out still does not want to seat. Needed a break. Gonna get back at it.

Great job explaining the differences between the grips farmboy. D94 hope you get the ones that have 4 wire not 5 and can be run inside the bars. Farmboy keep plugging along and hope to meet you when you deside to make your trek to the Black Hills.

Thx guys. I am planning on getting the standard black ones, I have the Denim Black and will be putting on black bars. I spoke with the service guy at the dealership today and he cleared up some stuff for me as well. He said the right side connects to the TGS and the left in the fairing. Sound right? The standard black ones are the ones Djc installed right? I hope all works out , I appreciate all your input. You guys rock!

D94 yes djc_1982 installed the standard black. way easier install. If you have any questions post them.

This photo helped me end a 30-45 minute search for the heated grips power connector. 1) the connection is tucked up under the tray and out of view, and 2) isn't quite where the shop manual said it would be.

Those HD instruction sheets are seriously lacking.

Anyway- djc_1982- thank you for posting.

Mandrew your more then welcome. Love the heated grips for the 30 to 40 degree rides to work.
