I just de-catted my head pipe. I am going to install it tonight and make an appointment next week to have the stage one air cleaner put on and the Pro Tuner. Then some dyno time to get it right. I am hoping the De-cat works well as it seems it should. There was a lot of restriction with that in the pipe. Can anyone chime in on results from a De-cat?

Its worth it... breathes alot better and less heat. About 25% louder depending on slipons...

Decat, will definitely cut heat down on the right leg and produce an awesome sound. In my case I lost some low end torque from the decat and V&H slip-ons. I will be changing exhaust to a 2 into 1 system soon.... 2 thumbs up on heat & sound and 2 thumbs down on performance

Charcoal pearl,4"jackpot,decat head pipe,tuner,21" Costal moto rim, chopped tour pak,Rockford amp and speaker upgrade. SE stage 1.

De-catted mine on Saturday. Heat dropped pretty dramatically on longer rides.. still seems a little hot on shorter rides, but not as bad as before. I did not notice any real change in sound..maybe a decibel or 2..not going to give you the roar you want. As far as performance- I did not notice any issue with loss of power, etc. Mine still has stock slip-ons etc.
One thing I am wondering- all pics, etc. I have seen on here and other places with someone de-catting shows a complete uninstall of head pipe, etc. to do the job. My cohort and I left the pipe on the bike,,removed heat shields, cut pipe and scraped that crap out. Covered bike with shop towels and welded the piece back on. Seems easier than taking pipe off of bike and having to deal with holding it still, etc. during the process..plus no gaskets to replace. Heat shield covers the weld so asthetics is not a problem either..what am I missing?

I have had my pipes off several times... no need to replace header flange gaskets unless you mess them up.

Decat on a bench is much easier IMHO... position in a vice and have at it from the back flat side

Mine have been off a few time too, grinding sparks will melt into things too and don't want any of the residue to end up in the exhaust or head. Plus your welding with a tank of gas right above you. Glad you got it down but that scary to me.

All I can say is the sound with the Supertrapp Stouts is amazing. You can also feel the difference at the outlet of the pipes just at idle. They actually flow now. LOL I did notice a little low end power gone but it has not been tuned yet. I figure the stage 1 air filter kit and the HD Pro Tuner with a dyno tune should take care of this. It goes in Thursday for the dyno work. I was amazed how restrictive the cat is on these pipes. Well worth the time to remove it. On a side note I removed my head pipe and it was very easy to do on the bench. I also reused my gaskets as they were not damaged and I don't have any leaks.

Good to go.... you should feel a good difference after the tune and Stage 1 AC

I just gutted my pipes the old fashion way....with a hammer drill, a spade bit and a 26 inch pry bar....took me about 3 hours total time and it came out pretty good. I didn't clean all the crud off the inside though, about 99 % of it. I figure whats left on the inside won't hurt anything. I bought a spare oem header off ebay for $35 and decatted that and I will gut the other and sell it to someone too lazy to decat their own. I still have the stock pipes and it did make it a few decibels louder but I still need to get some descent slip-on's. I'm thinking of Street Cannons as I hear some good reports from other members on them.
